  • 0:00 | in this video I’m going to show you
  • 0:02 | three very simple tips to help you hit
  • 0:04 | the golf ball straighter than you ever
  • 0:07 | have
  • 0:08 | before number one is aim it’s so
  • 0:12 | unbelievably important if you want to
  • 0:13 | hit the ball straight you’ve got to be
  • 0:15 | aiming towards your target now what’s
  • 0:17 | really interesting with aim often it’s
  • 0:20 | challenging to aim at something that’s
  • 0:22 | further away we’re got to bring that
  • 0:24 | Target closer to us from here I’m going
  • 0:26 | to aim to the 150 marker in the middle
  • 0:29 | of the driving range now if I was just
  • 0:31 | to try and aim the golf club at that 150
  • 0:34 | marker it’s hard it’s really hard so
  • 0:38 | what I like to do stand behind the golf
  • 0:40 | ball and pick a point that’s much closer
  • 0:43 | to me in line with that 150 so I’m
  • 0:47 | drawing an imaginary line here and
  • 0:49 | actually this’s perfectly almost this
  • 0:52 | old diver in front of me right there now
  • 0:56 | how much easier is it to aim the golf
  • 0:59 | ball to that diver which I know is in
  • 1:01 | line with the 150 marker just to
  • 1:04 | illustrate that I’m going to put this
  • 1:06 | alignment pull
  • 1:09 | down and I can stand behind this ball
  • 1:13 | and I know if I aim my club perfectly to
  • 1:16 | that alignment stick that is going to
  • 1:18 | run all the way to the 150 marker and
  • 1:21 | the club head is key if we want to hit
  • 1:24 | it straight that club head has got to be
  • 1:26 | aiming straight so then I can aim my
  • 1:28 | club at that marker
  • 1:30 | I want to run my feet parallel to that
  • 1:32 | point so if anything running slightly to
  • 1:35 | the left almost like train tracks and I
  • 1:38 | know with a lot of confidence that I am
  • 1:41 | aiming dead straight towards my
  • 1:50 | target number two is Club face control
  • 1:53 | yes we’ve aimed it at the Target but if
  • 1:55 | that club face starts twisting too much
  • 1:57 | in our golf swing as it comes to hit the
  • 2:00 | it’s not going to be aiming at the
  • 2:01 | Target a couple of really key
  • 2:03 | checkpoints and to be honest something
  • 2:05 | I’ve struggled with in the past yes
  • 2:07 | we’ve aim the club straight I’m very
  • 2:09 | confident with that now what we’d like
  • 2:11 | to do as the club goes back we don’t
  • 2:14 | want the club head to be rotating and
  • 2:17 | twisting too much into an open position
  • 2:20 | because that’s going to return the club
  • 2:22 | open and hit the ball to the right we
  • 2:24 | also going back we don’t want to aim the
  • 2:26 | club down to the ground too much because
  • 2:28 | as we come into the F again that’s going
  • 2:31 | to aim over to the left our checkpoint
  • 2:34 | and I advise you to practice this as you
  • 2:37 | go back to halfway so effectively hip
  • 2:40 | high we want the club head just to be
  • 2:42 | slightly leaning over notice how the toe
  • 2:45 | is just in front of the heel not by a
  • 2:48 | lot but enough cuz as I turn back down
  • 2:51 | again that is going to be aiming
  • 2:53 | straight another really good checkpoint
  • 2:55 | on the way through the club head has
  • 2:57 | also returned back in that matching
  • 2:59 | position where the toe is just in front
  • 3:01 | of the heel if we can get really good
  • 3:05 | halfway back into impact and halfway
  • 3:07 | through I will guarantee you you will
  • 3:10 | hit the ball straighter because you’ll
  • 3:12 | have better face control now a lot of
  • 3:15 | that does come down to the grip which is
  • 3:17 | a different topic in its own right if
  • 3:19 | you want to know more about the grip
  • 3:20 | I’ll put the link in the in this video
  • 3:22 | or the top line of the description
  • 3:23 | because the grip does influence the club
  • 3:26 | face but if you can go back with the
  • 3:29 | club head slightly tow in front of heel
  • 3:33 | you will hit the golf ball straighter
  • 3:34 | you’ll have so much more Club face
  • 3:36 | control rather than twisting the golf
  • 3:38 | club too
  • 3:41 | much oh that’s absolutely Arrow
  • 3:46 | straight oh that felt good and finally
  • 3:50 | tip number three yes you might be aiming
  • 3:52 | at the Target yes your Club face might
  • 3:54 | be square but the last factor in hitting
  • 3:58 | the golf four straight is the Direction
  • 4:00 | your Club enters the golf ball what path
  • 4:03 | your Club enters the ball now if you
  • 4:06 | slice the golf ball if you curve that
  • 4:08 | golf ball way off to the right hand side
  • 4:10 | it might have started straight and we’ve
  • 4:12 | heard that before my ball starts
  • 4:14 | straight but it curves offline or it
  • 4:16 | starts straight and it goes to the left
  • 4:18 | if you curve it too far to the right
  • 4:21 | your swing Direction your path will be
  • 4:24 | too much from out to in you will be
  • 4:26 | swinging across your body if you are a
  • 4:30 | slicer I want to try this put a club
  • 4:33 | down or an alignment stick it doesn’t
  • 4:35 | really matter what it is and feel like
  • 4:38 | if the target is 12:00 I want that Rod
  • 4:42 | or that club to almost be pointing to
  • 4:44 | the right of that more like it’s
  • 4:46 | pointing at 1:00 aim your Club face
  • 4:49 | straight don’t change anything your Club
  • 4:52 | face but feel like as you come in to hit
  • 4:54 | the ball you’re going to almost mirror
  • 4:57 | that line this will stop you slicing it
  • 5:00 | if you CL face it
  • 5:03 | straight and you swing it down that line
  • 5:06 | you’ll start to see a little bit more of
  • 5:08 | a draw shot shape if you hook the golf
  • 5:11 | ball you might start it straight all
  • 5:14 | well and good but it then curves off to
  • 5:16 | the left I wa this time to point that
  • 5:19 | club or that alignment stick to 11:00
  • 5:22 | because you need to feel like you’re
  • 5:23 | cutting across the golf ball a little
  • 5:25 | bit more aim your C face straight and
  • 5:28 | feel like you’re cutting across the
  • 5:34 | ball that’s so so so straight oh felt
  • 5:39 | good three top tips aim Club face and
  • 5:44 | path will help you hit it straighter
  • 5:47 | than you ever have before be sure to
  • 5:49 | like And subscribe and we’ll see you

Im sorry. But every man and his dog makes these types of videos. How about more indepth videos. About club release, body release, backswing positions. Body sequences, feet positions. Weight dispersion. Doing the same video you did 5 years ago. Isnt content

Bread and butter videos for Rick will always be tips and equipment reviews. I think between Rick and Pete they are the best ones at tips and reviews.

My problem is I constantly hit the ball off the heel, my monkey brain just thinks "I have stick, hit ball with stick" but doesnt think about the fact that the head of the golf club sticks out of the end of the stick. Its crushing my motivation to play

Hey Rick thanks. I'm guilty for not aiming, going to focus on that this season.

Superb stuff Rick, fundamentals that we can all refresh at the range vs aimlessly smacking balls (ignore the haters)

One thing my coach told me to help with face angle was to imagine the toe (or heel) arriving earlier. Always struggled with an open club face, but for some reason, visualizing this really helped me to shut it – hope it helps someone else out there struggling with chronic pushes!

Dunno what it is with Rick.
He has a good looking swing, can drive 280 yards, knock it to 10-15 feet from 120 yards out, and can drain a few long putts. But never seems to put all those elements together on the same day.
What gets me more as a person new to the game is that unlike me, Rick actually knows how to hit good shots and what causes bad shots. If I hit a bad shot I don't always know why, and thus repeat the mistake until I learn how to correct it. where as Rick knows why and then does the same thing again on the next hole.

Rick really needs to watch a video to show you how to hit straighter shots.

Love ya Rick, but is this a response to that video where the dude said you’re essentially a 16 HCP? Look I’m a 16 HCP and no where near your level. I hope to someday be a single digit. My advice folks: Find a good coach and get in a sim, to get that feedback on your swing.

Been a while since an instructional issue. Glad its back! While the info is simple and more of a fundamental thing, its still good to have as a reminder. If i may offer a suggestion, id like more drills and such to help solidify different issues, much like you did in tip number 3 here. Keep up the great work!

This is exactly what I’m working on. Trackman is an incredible tool for trying to dial in and to really see your flaws instead of feeling them. Would love to see a HIT video on this with some numbers and tips.

Tip 1: get a lesson with your local pro
    Tip 2: get another lesson
Tip 3: probably book a bulk of lessons

Not exactly ‘one size fits all’… my path is generally neutral, and club face is definitely more closed now, but I keep hitting off the heel. That’s what’s causing my left-to-right shape at the moment.

I get rather confused, there’s lots of YouTubers and PGA instructors trying to teach the holy grail of hitting it straight, then there’sthen there’s another crowd of instructors and YouTubers saying that hitting it straight is the hardest shot and always go for a small draw or fade. Confusing!
