Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This YouTube channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!

I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.

I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!

On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

  • 0:00 | if you want to get better at golf let’s
  • 0:02 | be honest the quickest and most
  • 0:04 | efficient way is to practice and take
  • 0:07 | golf lessons but let’s be honest
  • 0:09 | everyone’s got the time or actually the
  • 0:11 | desire to do those things in this video
  • 0:14 | I’m going to show you seven very simple
  • 0:17 | ways to get better at golf without
  • 0:20 | practice
  • 0:21 | and they’re going to change your game
  • 0:23 | tip number one warm up now let’s be
  • 0:26 | honest not many of you I’ve got the time
  • 0:28 | of a tour pro where you can get to the
  • 0:30 | golf course an hour and a half before
  • 0:32 | you play and do an extensive warm-up
  • 0:34 | regime all you need is five minutes
  • 0:36 | before you tee off so either hit shots
  • 0:39 | in a net even if it’s just 10 shots to
  • 0:41 | loosen your body up or even better still
  • 0:43 | if you’ve not got time for that grabba
  • 0:45 | got a couple of golf clubs at a similar
  • 0:47 | length hold them together so it’s almost
  • 0:49 | like double weighted golf club just do
  • 0:52 | 10 full Swings with two clubs hold them
  • 0:56 | both together it really helps you warm
  • 0:59 | up your golf muscles at least then when
  • 1:01 | you stand up to hit your first tee shot
  • 1:03 | you’re a bit warmer so you’ve got a
  • 1:05 | better chance of hitting a great opening
  • 1:07 | tee shot all these little tiny
  • 1:10 | adjustments make a big difference to
  • 1:11 | your scorecard at the end so talking
  • 1:13 | about scorecards it brings us nicely
  • 1:15 | onto tip number two about actually
  • 1:17 | managing the score card before you go
  • 1:20 | and play I love this idea of breaking up
  • 1:22 | your scorecard into six three whole
  • 1:26 | sections and all you’re trying to do is
  • 1:28 | get through those three holes at a time
  • 1:30 | set yourself little mini goals because
  • 1:32 | every then three holes you’re almost
  • 1:34 | refreshing that energy that kind of
  • 1:36 | excitement to play the next three holes
  • 1:38 | it’s a simpler way and an easier way to
  • 1:41 | manage your score and your score card
  • 1:43 | tip number three and I’ve come down here
  • 1:46 | to The First Tee and I’m warmed up and
  • 1:48 | I’m feeling ready and confident but also
  • 1:51 | got to accept golf is hard and you are
  • 1:54 | going to hit bad shots it’s just part of
  • 1:58 | golf even the best players in the world
  • 2:00 | players like John Ram hit bad shots and
  • 2:03 | if you go in there with an acceptance of
  • 2:05 | bad shots going to happen then when you
  • 2:07 | do hit one it doesn’t come as a massive
  • 2:08 | surprise and it doesn’t kind of leave
  • 2:10 | this kind of black cloud over your head
  • 2:12 | where you’re feeling frustrated angry
  • 2:14 | and the quicker you can get over that
  • 2:16 | bad shot the more chance your next shot
  • 2:18 | is going to be really good but how many
  • 2:20 | times have you played with someone where
  • 2:21 | they hit a bad shot
  • 2:23 | bailed get angry frustrated the next
  • 2:25 | shot becomes another bad shot oh that’s
  • 2:27 | an absolutely terrible golf shot the
  • 2:30 | next shot is another bad shot and so on
  • 2:32 | accept it move on and make sure your
  • 2:35 | next shot is better than your last tip
  • 2:38 | number four watch the ball like this is
  • 2:41 | so important if you hit a shot that’s
  • 2:44 | not going straight down the middle
  • 2:45 | you’ve hit a bad shot you might not have
  • 2:46 | struck it well it’s curving towards the
  • 2:48 | trees watch it intensely like get a
  • 2:52 | marker on it notice that what tree it
  • 2:55 | kind of landed near was it a post was
  • 2:57 | there bunker in line with how are you
  • 2:59 | going to give yourself the best possible
  • 3:01 | chance of finding that golf ball yeah
  • 3:03 | you’re annoyed but you’d be more annoyed
  • 3:06 | if you lost the ball so many golfers
  • 3:08 | will hit a bad shot and they’ll
  • 3:10 | instantly look away and they’re just not
  • 3:12 | watching it at all and they’re giving
  • 3:13 | themselves almost zero chance of finding
  • 3:16 | the golf ball watch it you’ll find it
  • 3:19 | and you’ll be able to hit it again and
  • 3:21 | you’ll improve your score it’s
  • 3:22 | incredibly important and so easy to do
  • 3:25 | so Point number five and it’s a simple
  • 3:28 | one but it can make a massive difference
  • 3:31 | to the consistency the distance and the
  • 3:35 | height of your golf shot so many golfers
  • 3:37 | once they’ve hit a shot we’ll just put
  • 3:38 | that club straight back in the bag or
  • 3:41 | give it a loose wipe but really that’s
  • 3:44 | not a good enough job you want to get
  • 3:46 | all the dirt out of the grooves you want
  • 3:48 | to make sure that club face is nice and
  • 3:49 | dry ready for when you hit the shot
  • 3:51 | again having clean grooves don’t just
  • 3:53 | make your clubs look good they also give
  • 3:55 | you a consistent reliable ball flight
  • 3:57 | this is key so as you can see that I’ve
  • 3:59 | given that a little wipe but there’s so
  • 4:02 | much kind of grit and sand still left in
  • 4:04 | the face getting a Groove cleaner or a
  • 4:07 | t-peg just making sure all of those
  • 4:10 | grooves are nice and clean again give it
  • 4:12 | a quick wipe and that is absolutely
  • 4:14 | pristine ready for the next shot it
  • 4:18 | doesn’t take long believe me but it can
  • 4:21 | honestly make a massive difference to
  • 4:24 | your next shot so tip number six when
  • 4:27 | I’m playing with playing partners
  • 4:29 | I’m trying to do my best to learn from
  • 4:31 | what they are doing and you need to do
  • 4:33 | this as well certainly when you get to a
  • 4:35 | path three let’s say for example and you
  • 4:37 | know you hit your shots similar distance
  • 4:39 | to your mate notice if they hit six iron
  • 4:42 | does it get to the green does it come up
  • 4:45 | short is the wind affecting the ball
  • 4:46 | flight and then you can make a much more
  • 4:49 | calculated decision on the shot and the
  • 4:52 | club you’re about to hit and it’s also
  • 4:55 | really important when you get up onto
  • 4:57 | the green like if you and your pal have
  • 4:59 | got a very similar Port watch their paw
  • 5:02 | let’s see how it moves across the green
  • 5:04 | is it fast as it slows does it break
  • 5:06 | more than you expected this is not
  • 5:08 | cheating it’s taken advantage of playing
  • 5:12 | with other players it’s a safe way and a
  • 5:15 | simple way that you can save more shots
  • 5:17 | during your round of golf side note
  • 5:19 | before I come on to the final tip number
  • 5:21 | seven I just want to mention the fact
  • 5:23 | that each one of these tips so far might
  • 5:26 | not completely change our golf game how
  • 5:28 | however every Advantage we can take is
  • 5:32 | going to help you score for example next
  • 5:35 | time you go and play if you’ve warmed up
  • 5:36 | a little bit for your tee off you might
  • 5:38 | just go and power the first hole instead
  • 5:39 | of making bow gear next time you hit the
  • 5:41 | ball into the trees and look away you
  • 5:43 | might look out for it and find your golf
  • 5:45 | ball it’s going to make a massive
  • 5:46 | Advantage those clean grooves might just
  • 5:48 | help you hit it a little bit closer to
  • 5:50 | the pin and also you might just hold
  • 5:52 | that Port after watching your playing
  • 5:54 | Partners put before you suddenly you’re
  • 5:57 | saving four or five shots around and
  • 5:58 | that really makes a big difference final
  • 6:01 | tip number seven
  • 6:03 | play with better players as much as you
  • 6:07 | can don’t be scared or intimidated about
  • 6:09 | putting your name down on a start sheet
  • 6:11 | with better players you can learn from
  • 6:13 | their strengths but how do they navigate
  • 6:16 | a golf course how do they play good golf
  • 6:18 | you can watch and notice that they also
  • 6:21 | hit bad shots had good players hit bad
  • 6:25 | shots it’s inevitable it’s golf right as
  • 6:27 | I mentioned before golf is hard and it
  • 6:30 | might just help you kind of reset your
  • 6:32 | expectation levels if you hit a bad shot
  • 6:34 | it’s going to happen as a slightly
  • 6:36 | higher handicap it’s fine
  • 6:38 | get out there put yourself down with
  • 6:40 | better players I know when I’ve played
  • 6:42 | with better Flyers it helps improve my
  • 6:45 | game that’s for sure guys thanks for
  • 6:47 | watching seven tips to help you play
  • 6:49 | better golf without practice again if
  • 6:51 | you can practice great if you can’t do
  • 6:54 | these things and they’ll help you play
  • 6:55 | better be sure to like And subscribe

    Love your videos!

It's difficult to help people who have mostly admitted to themselves that they aren't very good!

Lots of golfers a like the gamblers who have already budgeted their loses before they start to play!

And so many players have flaws built into their games that can never be fixed… until they are willing to reconsider the whole concept of the golf swing!

And of course most golfers hate criticism!

It's interesting and frustrating to play with players who constantly make the same mistakes not realizing that what they are trying to do will NEVER work!

    Golf is grand! ?

I like the tip about splitting up the scorecard. Give myself small goals to get through the round!

If you want to read the Gospel then I will put something like that in my replies, but if you read that then you should still read the complete Gospel. I put this because in Acts 1:8 it says “You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” so I put this to do what The Lord says. If you read it then like the comment so that more people can see it, and more people have at least one opportunity, because accepting Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior is the most important decision that you will ever make.

    All good tips, Rick.
Yes – keep those clubs clean during play (to include a good full shaft and grip wipe at least once after a round or two rounds). If you care for your clubs, you'll care for your game.
Also – for younger players – push yourself back to the next farther tee at your club. Always force yourself to overcome length, shots you don't normally hit. Forcing yourself to play longer holes / courses will naturally force you to have to work on different clubs in your bag – perhaps driver, fairways, long irons. Over time, you'll gain length, confidence, course management skills, and much more. Same could be true for narrow, target courses. Force yourself to play courses and shots that help expand your skill set.

As a hacker who just started playing more regularly, getting par on the 1st or second hole makes a massive psychological difference to the day if you can. Also I have a monocular scope so I can watch the next group in front on the green for cheats where the ball is rolling ??

One of my favorite things I say to myself before and during a round is I pay to play I don't get paid to play. Helps me manage my expectations and move forward after a bad hole. Really has helped me cut down a few strokes.

Tip number 8 enjoy it. Golf I find is like an apprenticeship always things to learn.

I always find that if you play good golf you want to play again. And when you play bad golf you want to play again because you know you can play better
