  • 0:01 | golf Central on YouTube is brought to
  • 0:03 | you by the Paradigm AI smoke woods and
  • 0:05 | irons from Callaway hey I’m mat Adams
  • 0:08 | and this is your golf Central update
  • 0:10 | after a winless 2023 Nelly Corda has
  • 0:14 | three starts on the LPGA Tour this year
  • 0:16 | and two wins her latest C at the fur
  • 0:19 | Hills seac Championship she regains the
  • 0:22 | number one spot in the Rolex world
  • 0:24 | rankings and she now has 10 career wins
  • 0:27 | on the LPGA Tour she talked about f in
  • 0:31 | La yeah I mean I I think um I paused at
  • 0:36 | um8 for a pretty long time I mean seven
  • 0:40 | and then um after 2021 I felt like you
  • 0:43 | know I I kept racking them up I guess
  • 0:46 | the wins and golf was so much fun and
  • 0:48 | then 2022 I got one at the end of the
  • 0:50 | year and last year was a little
  • 0:51 | disappointing with no wins but I think
  • 0:54 | it’s just golf I mean you got to take it
  • 0:57 | as it comes um you know everything
  • 1:00 | happens for a reason and I’m always
  • 1:02 | going to put uh 110% into everything
  • 1:05 | that I do especially with how much I
  • 1:07 | love the game and I just think it’s it’s
  • 1:10 | so much fun competing there’s nothing
  • 1:12 | better than that Adrenaline Rush coming
  • 1:15 | down the your last couple holes and when
  • 1:17 | you’re in the lead so when it comes to
  • 1:20 | wins obviously every event that I play
  • 1:22 | in I want to win but I also just love
  • 1:25 | the experiences of playing in these
  • 1:27 | events and learning more about myself
  • 1:29 | with this wi Nelly you are projected to
  • 1:32 | return to the top of the Rolex rankings
  • 1:36 | was that one of those kind of small
  • 1:38 | goals to you um and if not or if it is
  • 1:41 | what does that say about kind of the
  • 1:42 | state of how you’re feeling about your
  • 1:44 | game just sort of send back to world
  • 1:45 | number one yeah I mean gosh um I feel
  • 1:49 | like the number one ranking almost
  • 1:50 | changes like the wind it’s so back and
  • 1:52 | forth um I would say I am so grateful
  • 1:56 | and so proud that I have the world
  • 1:59 | number one ranking that I got it back in
  • 2:01 | 2021 would I say is it a goal of mine
  • 2:05 | entering the year I wouldn’t say it’s a
  • 2:08 | goal because if I play well and if I if
  • 2:12 | I’m present and if I’m having fun out
  • 2:15 | here that all kind of comes with it so
  • 2:18 | my goals are mainly very present of
  • 2:21 | where I am right now the week I’m
  • 2:22 | playing and um just small little goals
  • 2:26 | will eventually lead you to the big
  • 2:28 | goals
  • 2:30 | invitations to compete in the 2024
  • 2:33 | Augusta National Women’s Amateur were
  • 2:34 | sent in January in a full field of 72
  • 2:38 | players has been confirmed for the
  • 2:40 | championship which will be held April 3
  • 2:42 | through 6 in Augusta 2022 Champion Anna
  • 2:46 | Davis joined us today on golf
  • 2:49 | today delighted to tell you that Anna
  • 2:51 | Davis joins us right now Anna thank you
  • 2:54 | for taking the time to join us after you
  • 2:57 | won the Augusta National Women’s Amateur
  • 2:59 | how much did it how much did it change
  • 3:00 | your
  • 3:02 | life um I mean in so many ways um
  • 3:07 | just um you know traveling across the
  • 3:10 | world playing a bunch of LPGA events um
  • 3:14 | meeting new people having new
  • 3:15 | experiences at just the age of 16 was
  • 3:19 | very lifechanging you know not very many
  • 3:21 | people get to play on the LPGA Tour and
  • 3:25 | playing a ton of majors at just 16 years
  • 3:27 | old and so I’m still very thankful for
  • 3:29 | the opportunities and I think it’s
  • 3:31 | shaped me into the person I am today and
  • 3:34 | how has that person evolved where you’ve
  • 3:36 | gone from
  • 3:37 | Incognito before say the spring of 2022
  • 3:42 | to where you are now in your freshman
  • 3:44 | year at
  • 3:46 | Auburn um I mean just lots of exposure
  • 3:50 | to the media obviously um just getting
  • 3:53 | to meet a lot of people a lot of
  • 3:55 | important people um but I think I’ve
  • 3:59 | just changed a lot in the way I
  • 4:02 | socialize and the way I interact with
  • 4:04 | people you know not very many 17
  • 4:06 | 18yearold girls get to have some of the
  • 4:09 | experiences that I’ve had and so very
  • 4:12 | grateful for that and um yeah I think
  • 4:15 | just having all these experiences has
  • 4:17 | also kind of led me to grow up a little
  • 4:19 | faster than your average teenager and um
  • 4:23 | yeah obviously coming in to Auburn a
  • 4:25 | semester early as well and just having
  • 4:27 | all of these different experiences is
  • 4:29 | growing up pretty fast I live on my own
  • 4:31 | now so just things like that have um
  • 4:35 | really shaped the way that um I act in
  • 4:38 | the way that I am now and these
  • 4:40 | experiences as you phrase it this
  • 4:42 | exposure to use another phrase that you
  • 4:44 | used I’m curious about how you handled
  • 4:48 | the weight how did you handle the weight
  • 4:50 | of expectation that had gone with what
  • 4:52 | you’d
  • 4:53 | accomplished um I think at first for me
  • 4:56 | it was pretty difficult you know
  • 4:58 | obviously being
  • 5:00 | 16 which is still pretty young and being
  • 5:04 | having that be the first time that I was
  • 5:05 | really in the public eye I guess and
  • 5:08 | being seen as a top amateur in golf and
  • 5:11 | um I think at first it was it was hard
  • 5:13 | for me to handle the pressure and the
  • 5:16 | expectations and you know having to go
  • 5:18 | out to a tournament and now having
  • 5:20 | people think okay well she has to win
  • 5:22 | this or she has to do this um I think at
  • 5:25 | first it was pretty tough but um feel
  • 5:28 | like I changed my perspective a little
  • 5:30 | bit and just going out and trying my
  • 5:33 | best and enjoying myself and not really
  • 5:36 | worrying what people think um I know
  • 5:39 | people that are watching want me to do
  • 5:41 | well and so I think just not having the
  • 5:46 | expectations really get to me because it
  • 5:47 | just doesn’t really
  • 5:49 | matter Anna you won the August National
  • 5:51 | Women’s Amer at 16 you made your LPGA
  • 5:53 | Tour debut that year a year later your
  • 5:56 | twin brother Billy Monday qualifies into
  • 5:59 | his first event on the PGA tour and then
  • 6:01 | you both land at Auburn as a package
  • 6:04 | deal on the men’s and women’s team how
  • 6:08 | important was it to share that journey
  • 6:10 | together and ultimately go to the same
  • 6:12 | spot where you are in
  • 6:15 | college um I think we both recognize
  • 6:19 | that it’s a real advantage that we’ve
  • 6:22 | grown up playing together and competing
  • 6:24 | against each other and just being able
  • 6:26 | to feed off each other and when we have
  • 6:28 | an issue um um having that other person
  • 6:31 | there um so I think both of us
  • 6:34 | recognized it would kind of be hard for
  • 6:36 | us to go to college without each other
  • 6:38 | and it kind of just happened that we
  • 6:40 | were going to go to Auburn um together
  • 6:42 | and I’m very excited for him to come in
  • 6:44 | the fall and um yeah but I think just
  • 6:49 | seeing him do well and I think him
  • 6:50 | seeing me do well kind
  • 6:52 | of you know feeds us and it makes us
  • 6:55 | want to do better and um we always want
  • 6:58 | the other to do really well so Anna when
  • 7:02 | you famously won the Augusta National
  • 7:04 | Women’s Amateur wearing the bucket hat
  • 7:07 | did you instantly become the golfer
  • 7:09 | wearing the bucket hat was that
  • 7:11 | something that was normal for you or was
  • 7:13 | it all of a sudden something that was
  • 7:15 | associated with you you’re like
  • 7:19 | how um well the that day I kind of just
  • 7:22 | put on a bucket hat cuz I saw it was
  • 7:24 | going to be a sunny day and I thought oh
  • 7:26 | what a perfect day for a bucket hat um
  • 7:28 | but I had never really
  • 7:30 | worn it a lot um so I kind of I kind of
  • 7:33 | fed into the bucket hat thing for a
  • 7:35 | while but I’ve stopped now I haven’t
  • 7:37 | worn it in a while actually
  • 7:42 | so any chance that you could I mean
  • 7:44 | we’re what a few weeks away now from the
  • 7:47 | Augusta National Women’s amiter any
  • 7:48 | chance you’d dust it off for that final
  • 7:52 | round at
  • 7:53 | austa I might pull it out we’ll see just
  • 7:56 | just to make the people
  • 7:58 | happy
  • 8:00 | and finally just your your expectations
  • 8:01 | you’re getting ready now for your third
  • 8:03 | appearance at the Augusta National
  • 8:05 | Women’s Amer so you you’ve returned once
  • 8:07 | as defending Champion now this will be
  • 8:10 | the the third time you te it up in this
  • 8:13 | event obviously very excited to go back
  • 8:17 | um just playing there any opportunity
  • 8:19 | you get is a blessing and so um just
  • 8:24 | gonna go into the week and enjoy myself
  • 8:27 | obviously had a rough year last year so
  • 8:30 | um just trying to you know get over that
  • 8:33 | and keep in mind yeah I did win the
  • 8:35 | first year and you know I’ve played well
  • 8:38 | on both of these golf courses and so I
  • 8:40 | think it’s just important for me to go
  • 8:43 | out and just enjoy myself and have a
  • 8:46 | good time and um you know play some good
  • 8:50 | golf well Anna we will certainly be
  • 8:53 | watching best of luck as you prepare now
  • 8:55 | for your third Journey to the Augusta
  • 8:57 | National Women’s amiter and for the the
  • 8:59 | rest of the season at Auburn thank you
  • 9:02 | guys thanks for having
  • 9:11 | [Music]
  • 9:18 | me

Does Anna have a slight resemblance to a young Justine Bateman?
