  • 0:00 | with more from TPC Craig Grant we
  • 0:02 | welcome in Rex hoger Rex great to see
  • 0:04 | you but we know what will zorus has put
  • 0:06 | his body through including surgery how
  • 0:08 | much of a setback is this
  • 0:11 | news well first and foremost it’s a hit
  • 0:14 | for the field he was the highest ranked
  • 0:15 | player in the field he’s a Dallas guy I
  • 0:16 | think there was going to be a lot of
  • 0:17 | fans out here to watch him continue that
  • 0:20 | comeback that he started last year in
  • 0:21 | the Bahamas I traded text briefly with
  • 0:24 | his performance Coach Josh Gregory he
  • 0:25 | told me he was quote 100% fine and as
  • 0:27 | you pointed out said he just needed some
  • 0:30 | this sounds like off the top that it’s
  • 0:32 | kind of a schedule crunch you look at
  • 0:33 | what he has been through really the last
  • 0:35 | few days he played last week in the team
  • 0:36 | event in New Orleans of course he played
  • 0:38 | the Masters he played Hilton Head we’re
  • 0:40 | getting into a very busy stretch I think
  • 0:42 | this was probably the prudent decision
  • 0:44 | anytime you have a player that has gone
  • 0:46 | through everything that Willie has when
  • 0:47 | it comes to his surgery and the health
  • 0:49 | issues that he withdraws it’s always
  • 0:51 | going to send up some red flags but it
  • 0:52 | seems like on the surface this has much
  • 0:54 | to do about nothing Rex with zeelot
  • 0:57 | Taurus now out the entire focus of the
  • 0:59 | tournament of course turns to Jordan spe
  • 1:02 | he did not play in this tournament a
  • 1:03 | year ago because of a wrist issue it is
  • 1:06 | still hampering him at least to some
  • 1:08 | extent what’s your level of concern when
  • 1:10 | it comes to Jordan spe and how he’s
  • 1:11 | played so far in
  • 1:13 | 2024 I think when it comes to Jordan I
  • 1:16 | have concern I have excitement and
  • 1:17 | everything else in between you and I
  • 1:19 | talk a lot about this that I don’t think
  • 1:20 | there’s anyone on the PGA tour right now
  • 1:22 | who is as entertaining to watch play
  • 1:24 | golf as Jordan Speed simply because he
  • 1:26 | has no unspoken thoughts everything on
  • 1:28 | the golf course is being exchange
  • 1:30 | between he and his caddy Michael grer
  • 1:32 | and we we actually referenced this a few
  • 1:34 | weeks ago when I was in San Antonio for
  • 1:36 | the Texas open and I had a chance to
  • 1:38 | talk with Jordan just kind of about the
  • 1:39 | idea if he’s moving in the right
  • 1:41 | direction does he feel like whatever
  • 1:43 | changes he’s working on with his team
  • 1:45 | are working out and he said he’s having
  • 1:46 | a hard time separate the results from
  • 1:48 | the process by that the results simply
  • 1:50 | haven’t been there but he feels like
  • 1:52 | he’s dedicated to the process but it is
  • 1:54 | getting to the point where you can tell
  • 1:56 | he is aggravated Rex is understandable
  • 1:58 | Jordan Speed is one of the best players
  • 2:00 | of this generation that has only two
  • 2:02 | victories since 2017 are we getting to a
  • 2:05 | point where you know the the a four
  • 2:08 | mentioned resume kind of outshines the
  • 2:11 | where Jordan spe is right now and he’s
  • 2:14 | not one of the best players in the world
  • 2:17 | anymore well you look at where he is in
  • 2:19 | the world ranking he is 20th right now
  • 2:20 | and he is the only top 20 player in the
  • 2:22 | field this week so I still think he is
  • 2:24 | keeping Pace with some other players
  • 2:25 | that are around him but no he’s not that
  • 2:28 | top five player that we saw pick a time
  • 2:30 | 2015 2016 when he was in full flight and
  • 2:33 | he was doing things that we really
  • 2:35 | hadn’t seen since Tiger Woods and a lot
  • 2:37 | of this stems from as Ryan pointed out
  • 2:39 | that there were injuries and injuries
  • 2:41 | that he continues to deal with but I
  • 2:42 | think the other half of this is he lost
  • 2:44 | a lot of confidence over the last few
  • 2:46 | years first with his swing then with his
  • 2:48 | short game it’s going to take time if it
  • 2:50 | if it AA comes back because he always he
  • 2:53 | puts so much energy so much emotion into
  • 2:56 | being able to do incredible things on
  • 2:57 | and around the greens we were never
  • 2:59 | surprised when he made a big prop putt
  • 3:01 | or chipped in now he doesn’t seem to
  • 3:03 | have the confidence to pull that off and
  • 3:04 | I feel like that was a huge part of who
  • 3:06 | Jordan Speed was you mentioned the hit
  • 3:09 | to the field earlier in this segment now
  • 3:11 | just three top 30 players in the field
  • 3:13 | at the CJ cup Byron Nelson which which
  • 3:15 | is not all that uncommon for these full
  • 3:17 | field events on the PJ tour what’s your
  • 3:20 | sense of how this is resonating with
  • 3:22 | golf fans the split between the
  • 3:24 | Signature Events we know the best
  • 3:25 | players are going to be competing and
  • 3:27 | these full field events which offer
  • 3:28 | offer an opportunity for the ranking
  • 3:31 | file I think last week the team event in
  • 3:34 | New Orleans desser classic was a bit of
  • 3:35 | an outlier because you ended up with
  • 3:36 | Rory maroy and Shane Lowry doing really
  • 3:39 | special things and winning in a playoff
  • 3:41 | and I think there was a lot of
  • 3:42 | excitement around that but it’s hard to
  • 3:43 | carry that momentum in when you have as
  • 3:45 | you pointed out really just one top 20
  • 3:48 | player Jordan spe is going to have to
  • 3:49 | carry the flag this week now we have
  • 3:51 | seen earlier in the season you’ve seen
  • 3:53 | those events that are in between the
  • 3:55 | signature tournaments those events that
  • 3:57 | are giving players an opportunity to
  • 3:58 | play their way into the events however
  • 4:01 | in this particular case I don’t know how
  • 4:02 | much it’s resonating with the fans
  • 4:04 | because you and I can talk about the Aon
  • 4:06 | swing five and Aon swing 10 and talk
  • 4:08 | about how important it is to play well
  • 4:10 | this week to get in to next week the
  • 4:12 | Wells Fargo another signature event but
  • 4:14 | I don’t think it’s quite registered with
  • 4:15 | the fans just yet understandable if
  • 4:18 | there’s a bit of a
  • 4:19 | postmasters lull I get it how much of
  • 4:22 | the onus is on the PGA tour in the midst
  • 4:25 | of these negotiations with the piff for
  • 4:27 | example to think outside the box to keep
  • 4:30 | trying to be Innovative and to do things
  • 4:33 | in a different way to keep those golf
  • 4:36 | fans
  • 4:38 | engaged I think pushing the envelope is
  • 4:40 | really important and we’re seeing that
  • 4:41 | right now the the comparisons between
  • 4:43 | the Signature Events the majors and then
  • 4:45 | the full field events you do need to do
  • 4:47 | something different I think the PGA Tour
  • 4:49 | the players have acknowledged this I
  • 4:50 | think maxom has probably been one of the
  • 4:52 | more outspoken players when it comes to
  • 4:54 | this I I reported this a few weeks ago
  • 4:56 | at at Hilton Head that there was a
  • 4:58 | player meeting there was a player
  • 4:59 | advisor council meeting and Theo Epstein
  • 5:01 | the former Boston Red Sox executive
  • 5:03 | spoke to the players about the idea of
  • 5:05 | trying to create a new product it’s what
  • 5:07 | they did in baseball we look at how much
  • 5:09 | time they cut off the average baseball
  • 5:11 | game that resonated with the fans it
  • 5:13 | made the game seem a little bit
  • 5:14 | refreshed it made the game seem a little
  • 5:16 | bit younger that’s what golf is trending
  • 5:18 | to right now and go to last week’s news
  • 5:20 | about the equity program that has a lot
  • 5:21 | to do with the idea that the tour wants
  • 5:23 | to make every player believe that
  • 5:25 | they’re an owner of their own tour so
  • 5:26 | not only did they buy in and they remain
  • 5:28 | loyal to the PGA tour but they also
  • 5:30 | understand that they have to go out of
  • 5:32 | their way to make the product better and
  • 5:34 | that’s probably going to take some new
  • 5:35 | thoughts and some new experiments the
  • 5:37 | fans wanted and needed

Yup, I have a fragile low back too. Once a bad back, always a bad back. I take 2 advils before playing which has helped me avoid spasms or back discomfort during play. Bad discs can heal, and I've avoided the advice of 2 neuro surgeons to have a "clean out" or microdiscectomy. At 75, I don't want the long recovery or possible surgical fails. Good luck to Will and Tiger, they both will need it with bad backs.
