  • 0:00 | Paul I’ll turn to you you you wrote a
  • 0:02 | really fascinating column on
  • 0:04 | skysports.com addressed a number of
  • 0:06 | topics one that really caught my
  • 0:08 | attention was what you said about fans
  • 0:11 | and what they want what is it you think
  • 0:13 | they they’re looking for yeah I mean
  • 0:15 | that’s the point I made at the start
  • 0:16 | here you know we’re talking telephone
  • 0:18 | numbers here and and you know Joe public
  • 0:20 | out there who’s watching here could care
  • 0:22 | less about this announcement today this
  • 0:24 | is about rich golfers becoming richer
  • 0:26 | and uh that does not turn on the public
  • 0:29 | and what The Narrative around Golf and
  • 0:31 | the divisiveness around golf in the last
  • 0:33 | 18 months has driven people away from
  • 0:35 | the game and away from the product of
  • 0:37 | the PGA Tour and it’s not like live that
  • 0:40 | has started up all of a sudden has taken
  • 0:41 | all of those people that’s you know has
  • 0:43 | not ignited at all in terms of the the
  • 0:45 | public perception of that with obviously
  • 0:47 | you know no network TV and and and and
  • 0:49 | limited engagement from the public so
  • 0:51 | golf is not in a good place and let’s
  • 0:54 | not get away from that as much as this
  • 0:55 | is a strategic move and a business move
  • 0:58 | and it’s a stepping stone to trying to
  • 0:59 | to put golf back together we have real
  • 1:02 | issues within the game and we have those
  • 1:04 | issues revolve around giving an
  • 1:06 | adjustable interesting product to the
  • 1:08 | fans out there that are going to be
  • 1:09 | tuning in to watch you know we
  • 1:11 | definitely need to somehow unify the
  • 1:13 | game again and bring the best players
  • 1:15 | together again that’s important but
  • 1:17 | let’s also not lose the wonderful
  • 1:18 | narrative that we had with NI Nick
  • 1:19 | Dunlop a few a few weeks ago you know an
  • 1:22 | amateur coming onto the scene and
  • 1:23 | winning um you know is team golf the way
  • 1:25 | forward I don’t know this fourman team
  • 1:27 | that Liv say is a new secret of the
  • 1:29 | future is that based on Market Research
  • 1:31 | I haven’t heard a lot of people I don’t
  • 1:33 | see people following to watch that all
  • 1:35 | my friends at home in Ireland are not
  • 1:36 | watching live they’re not interested in
  • 1:38 | it they want to see iconic venues they
  • 1:40 | want to see the top players playing
  • 1:42 | together and they want to be excited and
  • 1:43 | they want to have passion watching it so
  • 1:45 | we have some serious issues within the
  • 1:47 | game I know we spoke earlier about you
  • 1:49 | know these these you know very
  • 1:51 | successful people dealing in franchises
  • 1:53 | in other sports you know you we got to
  • 1:55 | come back and we got to create the
  • 1:56 | passion and the Loyalty from the fan
  • 1:58 | again because golf has has lost a lot of
  • 2:00 | fans in the last 18 months and it’s
  • 2:02 | broken and it needs a way to come back
  • 2:04 | together this is a move in that
  • 2:05 | direction but there is so much work
  • 2:07 | together let’s never forget the fan pays
  • 2:10 | the bill here it’s not us guys here it’s
  • 2:12 | not the tour players the fan pays the
  • 2:14 | bill we got to give him an adjustable
  • 2:16 | interesting and passionate event that
  • 2:18 | he’s going to tune in and watch did you
  • 2:19 | think the the product was broken before
  • 2:22 | Liv came two three years ago I thought
  • 2:24 | it was tired okay I thought it was tired
  • 2:26 | comfortable and I thought was too much
  • 2:28 | monotony Johnson you know my question is
  • 2:31 | you know talk about leadership and you
  • 2:32 | can talk about J J Jay and you can talk
  • 2:34 | about the boards and the game and
  • 2:35 | everything the governance of the game
  • 2:37 | this move I think is a good move because
  • 2:40 | importantly it ties the players to the
  • 2:41 | tour you know as independent Traders and
  • 2:44 | members organizations the first guy
  • 2:45 | coming in waving a wallet I thought it
  • 2:47 | was going to be private Equity turned it
  • 2:48 | out be the turned out to be the uh the
  • 2:51 | Saudis they were off you know secure
  • 2:53 | your products so that’s what this deal
  • 2:54 | is done is securing the product um and
  • 2:56 | you know maybe why wasn’t this looked at
  • 2:57 | 5 10 years ago why did it not see what’s
  • 2:59 | down the road when your product IE to
  • 3:01 | players is not secure you got an issue
  • 3:03 | it’s because the PGA Tour had gotten so
  • 3:05 | comfortable Tiger Woods elevated the
  • 3:06 | tour to a point and we just were resting
  • 3:09 | on our Laurels so so they they say
  • 3:11 | disruption is good we’ll see wouldn’t
  • 3:13 | Rah and his Camp have known that this
  • 3:16 | deal was was in the works and and
  • 3:18 | wouldn’t the tour SSG people have gotten
  • 3:21 | to Ramen as people to say hey hold on a
  • 3:23 | second I know they’re waving a lot of
  • 3:24 | money at you but we’ve been told you
  • 3:26 | care about Legacy that there’s something
  • 3:29 | in the works that you’re going to like
  • 3:30 | wouldn’t that have happened I’m sure it
  • 3:32 | did and why why would you say they still
  • 3:34 | went why would you say Hatton went I’m
  • 3:36 | sure Hatton they didn’t trust the
  • 3:38 | leadership you know June 6th lost a lot
  • 3:40 | of trust in leadership at a PGA Tour
  • 3:42 | maybe they didn’t trust that and the
  • 3:43 | money was certain over here and this was
  • 3:46 | still a little bit edgy didn’t know what
  • 3:47 | was going to happen it was a take it or
  • 3:49 | leave it opportunity they took it who
  • 3:50 | who knows but they would have known that
  • 3:52 | the the something was cooking from the
  • 3:54 | PGA Tours point of view H in order to
  • 3:56 | provide equity for the
  • 3:58 | players

Golf is broken….ive been an avid golfer for 29 years and now I only care to watch the Majors….The PGA Tour is way too watered down now…as far as LIV goes…I simply dont care to watch or follow it…

Hey rich ! Stop crying about rahm leaving ! Your a LIV hater since jay''s announcement last June . The tour will allow All the LIV guys a path to return eventually. That's how you beat LIV – money ! Fight fire with Fire .

LIV Tour format is a joke. I agree with Paul …..get the best players to turn out and get some drama. GOlf is an individual game other than Ryder CUp and President's Cup. People tune in to watch drama and competition. Look at tennis….who watches doubles tennis??!!! Golf is not a team sport per se. Get the best players at iconic venues and we will all watch!!!!

Sorry….it IS all about the fans. Players that go to LIV can just keep going. I (for 1 anyway) am sick of money LIV players were paid for simply joining (apparently LIV won't let them say)… and then have to listen to them whine about how much fans want to see "the best" play each other. (When leaving PGA disqualified them from PGA contests) They obviously don't hear themselves lauding PGA for having the best players in the world… As any pro athlete will attest it's the unrelenting competition that keeps you sharp, not unrelenting practice between official contests.
But LIV is exhibition golf because they've taken the incentive out of winning. Seriously…if LIV pays you $Hundreds of Millions of dollars to just be seen in it's event, then being paid $Millions for winning is a bit redundant no? And what if you come in second? What does that pay…. the equivalent of lunch money?
IF fans around the world like it that much more than PGA then LIV is their sports venue! And if you can't get to a tournament I'm sure that after watching Dr. Phil, Maury Povich and Jerry Springer on THE CW they have plenty of time between events to contemplate on how LIV is expanding the game. After all…. LIV tournaments for the limited 48 member tour were promoted as an "invitational".

Great comment Paul coming from a fan who has definitely lost interest over the last two years. Very sad.

LIV is a dud. Professional golf is broken, and we can argue about who broke it but what has happened is not good for the game Golf is unique. Maybe we just stop watching but we will always love being on the course…..except a Trump course

Lol yeah iconic venues like the same TPC courses every year. And just because you dont watch LIV golf does mean people dont. I like LIV more because they try more and edify their players more. They also have 10x the better commentary than the ones who broadcast the PGAT. Just excuse this guy for pleading the case for his employer

HOORAAA – PAUL IS AHEAD OF THE PACT IN UNDERSTANDING WHAT HAS TAKEN PLACE IN ENTERTAINMENT GOLF AND THE PSYCHOLOGY OF WHERE GOLF NEEDS TO GO. THE FANS ARE EXHAUSTED, TIRED, AND THEIR INTEREST HAS DIMINISHED. GOLF ENTERTAINMENT SURVIVES BASED ON HOW WILLING THE FANS ARE TO "PAY THE BILLS". THE GOLF ENTERTAINMENT BUSINESS HAS DRIFTED TOWARDS OBLIVION. DINOSAURS ARE GONE BUT NOT YET FORGOTTEN. TIME TO CHANGE FOR THE BETTER AND FAST. IF THE LIV TOUR LANDS A BROADCASTING DEAL THE PGA TOUR AND THE NEW INVESTORS MAY GET HUNG OUT TO DRY.

Dumb question rich. You don’t get rich on hints.
But even still rahm would never ever ever come close to the kind of money he signed for.
There is no going back on the mistakes that were made.
Even with this signing where Jay sold who knows how much of the pga tour to rich investors for what accounts to chump change for Yassir.
The writing has been on the wall boys.
Mcginley went nowhere with his rant. Fans want better coverage. More shots. And less people talking. That’s the last thing these golf channel people want to hear.
Even these golf shows almost never show golf shots. Even when there is no drama, no golf shots. It’s ridiculous.
    Get it together.
You make your money on golf shots. Use them
    Already.

Paul is right…rich men trying to get richer doesn't make the average person want to watch more often. This may really help out the LPGA.

Golf is NOT in a good place. You’ve become a mechanical enterprise. Team golf is a joke. Golf is one man versus the course and the conditions. LIV is a joke. Rahm bailed out for money. I’ll still play and watch, but it’s very boring this year so far.

LIV sucks most of the time but as much as I agree with the bulk of what Paul says- it’s also slightly hypercritical

Remember if u go woke. Your probably gunna go broke. The PGA has been leaning to the left side of the political spectrum over the last few years.

Paul must not of watched the LIV tournament in Australia last year when people flew in from all over 75 thousand fans and the hole in one on par three was the greatest celebration I ever saw at any golf tournament. Paul McGinley is so biased and unfair the only place he fits in is on the PGA Central propaganda show. ????????????

I may be in a minority but I’m tired of watching players hit 150 yard wedges to iron flat greens and the winner coming in at 33 under for four rounds… I want to see 3 or four under win on testing (and scenically beautiful courses absent highways in the background of every third shot), courses. There’s a reason the majors are the highlight of the year. They’re played to that formula.

The PGA tour that once was the stage where golf's greatest performed is gone replaced with money hungry anybodies who think they are somebodies…not a sport anymore a business.
