Video Transcript

  • 0:00 | in this video I’m going to show you how
  • 0:01 | to set up to the golf ball correctly and
  • 0:04 | more importantly consistently every
  • 0:07 | single time so you have no doubt in your
  • 0:09 | mind you’re set up ready to hit the best
  • 0:12 | shot number one rule build the whole
  • 0:15 | setup around the club head it is so
  • 0:17 | unbelievably important if you set up
  • 0:20 | with your feet first you’re going to get
  • 0:22 | all out of sink and what I mean by this
  • 0:25 | put the club Behind the golf ball first
  • 0:28 | make sure that’s aiming towards your
  • 0:30 | Target I’m going for this 150 marker out
  • 0:32 | here so i’ got a point in front of me
  • 0:33 | that I’m aiming at so I know I’m nice
  • 0:35 | and straight but setting up with the
  • 0:37 | club head first is key after that grip
  • 0:41 | take the hold of the golf club get your
  • 0:43 | grip in the best position for you and
  • 0:45 | where you feel comfortable whatever you
  • 0:48 | do with the grip don’t strangle it have
  • 0:50 | it nice and relaxed now we’ve got the
  • 0:52 | club head in position and we’ve got the
  • 0:55 | grip it’s now about taking our stance
  • 0:58 | with an iron we want that ball to be
  • 1:00 | pretty much in the middle if not
  • 1:01 | slightly further forward I’ve just got a
  • 1:03 | six9ine in my hand and from here now I
  • 1:05 | can start building my stance I’m taking
  • 1:08 | my width which ideally wants to be
  • 1:10 | shoulder width apart and more
  • 1:12 | importantly I’m developing this distance
  • 1:14 | between the ball and my feet top tip we
  • 1:19 | want this little bit of room here
  • 1:21 | between the club head and the body
  • 1:24 | really nice little Checker here if you
  • 1:26 | just have your club Behind the ball and
  • 1:28 | rest your Club on your left knee you
  • 1:30 | want it a couple of inches above your
  • 1:32 | left knee that’s that is when you know
  • 1:34 | you’re perfect if you’re too close to
  • 1:36 | the golf ball and you put your Club down
  • 1:38 | it’s right up here on your thigh no good
  • 1:41 | if you stand way too far away and your
  • 1:43 | golf club is down here again you’re not
  • 1:45 | going to be in the best position it’s
  • 1:46 | going to be hard to control your balance
  • 1:49 | so once you put your Club down then your
  • 1:52 | grip build your stance around that it’s
  • 1:55 | really important setup wise we always
  • 1:58 | like to look for just soft knees it’s
  • 2:01 | not a bend in the knees it’s just
  • 2:03 | relaxed taking a little bit of pressure
  • 2:05 | off your knees and then feeling like you
  • 2:07 | stick your bum backwards and you lean
  • 2:10 | over from your upper body notice from my
  • 2:13 | tailbone to the top of my of my spine
  • 2:16 | got that nice straight spine angle
  • 2:18 | tilted over but I’ve created that tilt
  • 2:20 | by sticking my bum backwards I’m relaxed
  • 2:24 | I’m not too tense that’s one thing I see
  • 2:26 | a lot of golfers do they’re really tense
  • 2:29 | over the golf ball
  • 2:30 | nice and relaxed softening of the knees
  • 2:33 | and then you can pull the
  • 2:35 | [Music]
  • 2:38 | trigger what I don’t ever want to see is
  • 2:42 | where you plant the feet in first like
  • 2:45 | you take your stance then you put your
  • 2:47 | Club down then you take your grip
  • 2:49 | because it’s very difficult to kind of
  • 2:52 | Shuffle in position there you end up
  • 2:53 | standing way too close to the golf ball
  • 2:56 | and you’ll just not create any power
  • 2:58 | always set up with the Club head first
  • 3:01 | that’s the most important aspect and
  • 3:03 | even with driver build your setup around
  • 3:06 | the club head first put the club head
  • 3:09 | behind the golf ball aiming in the
  • 3:10 | direction of your target then take your
  • 3:13 | grip driver stances that a little bit
  • 3:15 | wider with the ball position forward
  • 3:17 | again just a softening of the knees and
  • 3:20 | nice and relaxed I even just like a
  • 3:21 | little bit of movement so you’re not too
  • 3:23 | static or tense and then you can pull
  • 3:26 | the
  • 3:28 | trigger setup’s really important it is
  • 3:32 | get it right and I promise you you will
  • 3:35 | become more consistent better at golf a
  • 3:38 | lot quicker and you’ll have less doubt
  • 3:40 | you’ll enjoy it more be sure to like And
  • 3:42 | subscribe and we’ll see you next time

Not to be rude Rick… but we've all seen your videos… are you sure you are the best person to be talking about consistency?

I’m sure your tip on shaft distance away from body is great for the average player that these videos are for, but I would like to hear your opinion on why some pros set up with shaft almost touching their… other shaft.

Great video! Does the 2 inch check above the knee apply to the driver as well?

I can’t hit my driver or my woods or my hybrid. But I can destroy 120-150 yds with my PW easily. I’m super inconsistent with my irons too.????‍♂️ I need some professional help lmao.

What’s your best advise for staying down during a swing? I find myself more often than not topping the ball and essentially dribbling it down the course. Any advice or possibly a video on this topic would be appreciated, thanks and keep up the good work!

It's like it has become cool to drill the guy. He knows what he's doing and these gems are free.

Appreciate the help, Rick. Was a bit nostalgic watching this!

Good tips. That’s pretty much my process too, but I might adjust my grip ever so slightly once I’ve positioned my feet to ensure it’s in the fingers , else all good.

I always, but its hard, look at the ground just infront of the ball, and I get crisp shots regularly.

Like the tip of there the club should hit just above knee to get the correct distance away, find that the hardest thing to judge and has so many impact on the club path I assume. Thanks Rick.

I find Rick's training stuff, on the whole….pretty useless. I only started playing golf in the past few years….and I've advance pretty fast since I started. However, I find Rick's training to be simplistic….and not addressing the key aspects properly….to teach people how to hit a ball well…and consistently. He teaches a lot of fluff, on the whole. There are much better teachers for solidifying technique….whether on Youtube…or in real life. On the whole, RIck is kind of flaky when it comes to performance….and the same is true of his teaching.
