1:10 | chances for birdie every hole which I

1:12 | think um takes pressure off one guy and

1:15 | um and then in this alternate uh shot

1:20 | play nothing too crazy um limit mistakes

1:24 | um if we are out of position we’re uh

1:27 | very smart about the next shot and and

1:29 | trying to set up a chance to get up and

1:30 | down so um yeah hopefully we got two

1:34 | more days um we got a chance yeah 13

1:37 | underpar as you can see that represents

1:39 | a two underpar effort for the day

1:42 | although two bogeys on their card today

1:46 | afterwards the team of Rory maroy and

1:48 | Shane Lowry met with the

1:54 | really sweet bunker shots and some

1:55 | really good chip shots does that free

1:56 | you up knowing that obviously you’re not

1:58 | looking to put him in a bad position but

2:07 | some a couple of the shorter par fours

2:11 | close to the green um yeah you know

2:13 | Shen’s got a wonderful short game and it

2:15 | does you know it gives me confidence

2:18 | going for those greens you know whether

2:20 | it be the par fours or the par fives

2:21 | that if I get it anywhere up there

2:22 | around the green I’m going to you know

2:24 | have a you know a very good look for

2:27 | birdie after after he hits his and after

2:29 | a couple of C that I know that he wanted

2:30 | to drop in didn’t fall for him did you

2:32 | say anything to him it looked like a

2:33 | couple times you may have said don’t

2:34 | worry about it no problem so yeah I

2:36 | think just um as sh said like you know

2:38 | after those it’s it’s easy to to sort of

2:41 | get hard on yourself and I just trying

2:42 | to keep him as positive as possible and

2:44 | just remind him that that I’m here and

2:45 | I’m here to back him up in any way that

2:47 | I can so yeah just you know trying to

2:50 | trying to keep him

2:51 | positive right couple more guys Shane

2:54 | you said last night with early tea time

2:56 | you you were got your goal was to stay

2:58 | out of trouble get a lot of time this

3:06 | a golf tournament we’ll enjoy ourselves

3:24 | their scorecard of 5 under 67 a very

3:28 | very good score considering all of the

3:31 | conditions what did they consider what

3:32 | was their opinion they spoke with our

3:35 | Browski a lot of positives to take away

3:41 | where’s your level of satisfaction

3:43 | considering what you guys did yeah I

3:45 | think we did exactly what we needed

3:48 | lot of nice golf and we’ll take some of

3:49 | that momentum over to tomorrow we know

3:59 | that is required yeah I mean Pat and I

4:02 | were talking we we knew we needed to

4:03 | sort of move there’s just like a a level

4:06 | of urgency needed when you play this

4:07 | sort of format even best ball or or

4:10 | forums um you kind of just look up at

4:12 | the board and you feel like you just

4:13 | need to keep pressing and pressing so we

4:15 | just look at the big picture and overall

4:17 | we like you said we we did what we

4:18 | needed to do today to sort of move back

4:20 | up into a good position you guys won

4:22 | here two years ago tied for fourth in

4:24 | 2023 we discussed it yesterday but why

4:26 | does this partnership work so well

4:30 | I mean we’ve done it I we we’ve been

4:33 | we’ve been at it for some time now you

4:34 | know Pat and I are were seasoned vets

4:36 | out here it feels that way at least and

4:39 | uh we enjoy each other’s company and we

4:40 | enjoy this event and uh play in front of

4:42 | these fans always good to catch up all

4:55 | did today present a different set of

4:57 | challenges for this squad

4:59 | uh no question about it I mean the golf

5:01 | course was firmer faster the wind was

5:03 | definitely blowing uh quite a bit out of

5:06 | the south-southeast and and it was a you

5:09 | know a win that that L A lot of the the

5:11 | short par fors play fairly easy but you

5:14 | really had to watch some of the par 3es

5:17 | they absolutely love this format that it

5:19 | was the round of the day I mean nobody

5:21 | shot better than five under uh that made

5:23 | the cut so they are right there doing

5:25 | what they had to do after what they said

5:27 | was a slow start shooting a 60 five in

5:30 | best ball it’s funny they they actually

5:32 | do play this format better than they do

5:36 | uh the the better ball format seems like

5:38 | they kind of get off to slow starts or

5:39 | at least they did last year and this

5:41 | year but they catch up real quick when

5:44 | they get to this this kind of format and

5:46 | I think it’s for you know a couple of

5:48 | reasons is how similar their games are

5:50 | when you look at at players that that

5:53 | have different type games I don’t think

5:55 | they they menend quite as much cuz a lot

5:58 | of people will say put a short hitter

6:00 | with a long hitter because he’s going to

6:02 | be good with the wedges I disagree I

6:04 | think you got to have very similar Gams

6:06 | and when you look statistically at these

6:08 | two guys this is last year’s ranks and

6:10 | actually if you look at xanders this

6:12 | year and Patrick hadn’t gotten off to

6:14 | the best start Patrick’s uh Xander

6:17 | numbers are even more like Patrick’s

6:19 | were especially off the T and T to green

6:21 | and you know around the green they have

6:23 | very similar games and I think the

6:25 | reason why that is Matt is when you’re a

6:27 | good ball Striker both these guys are

6:30 | you’re not used to being in awkward

6:32 | positions so you know you take a Jordan

6:34 | spe and he’s going to put you in some

6:36 | positions that he can escape from that

6:38 | these guys aren’t used to being in and

6:40 | that’s why you’ve got to have guys with

6:42 | very similar type games that are used to

6:45 | how they play they both play very

6:46 | methodically they both hit a lot of

6:48 | quality Iron shots they all both have a

6:51 | lot of good looks at birdie and greens

6:53 | and regulation so I think that’s why

6:55 | it’s you need to look no further than

6:57 | that and then all the oh also the fact

6:59 | that they’re very good friends this is a

7:01 | this could be a you know is going to be

7:04 | a really good pairing in president’s

7:06 | cups and rer cups for a long long time

7:08 | get used to it they are a tough out in

7:10 | those team competitions without question

7:12 | well trip I want to put your theory

7:14 | about similar games to test here with

7:16 | our next team we know that it’s Rory

7:18 | Mary’s tournament debut he’s playing

7:20 | alongside of a good friend in Shane

7:22 | Lowry they’re definitely delivering on

7:24 | the entertainment value that we had

7:26 | hoped but how do you think their games

7:28 | are meshing

7:30 | well look here’s the thing they they

7:32 | don’t have quite as similar game because

7:34 | there are very few people who have a

7:36 | game like Rory maroy the great thing

7:38 | about what Shane brings to the table is

7:40 | he’s a very very good ball Striker I

7:42 | mean the fact that they trusted him to

7:44 | hit on the odd holes says everything

7:46 | about it because you you always put your

7:48 | best um Iron player on the odd holes

7:51 | particularly because of the par 3es

7:53 | three of the part 3es are are odd holes

7:56 | and you also I think with Rory’s

7:58 | Firepower you can get up around the

8:01 | greens with with uh Rory hiton on the

8:03 | even hole so I think that’s a formula

8:05 | for them even though uh I I I they also

8:08 | have the chemistry so they are living up

8:11 | to the hype these are two guys who came

8:13 | in with Targets on their back they

8:14 | clearly were the favorites and they are

8:17 | delivering and it also looks like

8:18 | they’re having a ton of fun I know they

8:21 | didn’t play this last Rider cup together

8:23 | but I see these two as a a good pairing

8:26 | for Luke Donald in the next Rider cup

8:29 | the only only problem is they’re both

8:30 | experienced players and sometimes with

8:33 | younger players you got to put Rory and

8:35 | Shane with some of the younger players

8:36 | and I think that’s probably what kept

8:38 | Luke from doing it in this La last Rider

8:40 | cup but you you can’t second guess what

8:42 | Luke Donald did in Italy and that’s for

8:45 | sure and we are back to best ball

8:47 | tomorrow so this team that we’re talking

8:49 | about it’ll be fun to see the way they

8:50 | perform back in that format
