Video Transcript

  • 0:00 | welcome to going for the green I’m Brad
  • 0:02 | Thomas here with Denny Carter and this
  • 0:03 | week we are breaking down our favorite
  • 0:05 | bets and plays for the CJ cup Byron
  • 0:07 | Nelson Denny before we get into it man
  • 0:10 | I’m gonna have to give you a massive pad
  • 0:12 | on the back because you absolutely
  • 0:14 | carried our team for the zge classic
  • 0:16 | congratulations on not only having an
  • 0:19 | absolute stunning card you selected the
  • 0:21 | outright champion and Roy Maloy and
  • 0:23 | Shane Lowry I should have listened more
  • 0:26 | to myself Brad when I I should have had
  • 0:28 | all all of the Lowry mroy team I did
  • 0:31 | have a a good exposure to them in
  • 0:33 | DraftKings uh tournaments it paid off to
  • 0:35 | an extent but hey look I’m glad that we
  • 0:38 | were able to figure out an algorithm
  • 0:40 | that showed us that despite these guys
  • 0:43 | low and malroy may be partying in New
  • 0:45 | Orleans maybe maybe having a good time
  • 0:47 | after the rounds they they were still
  • 0:48 | going to come through that’s what the
  • 0:49 | algorithm said uh that’s what our model
  • 0:52 | said so we listen to them and and we’re
  • 0:53 | going to go forward with that you know
  • 0:55 | what’s awesome uh we talked about them
  • 0:57 | partying in New Orleans they absolutely
  • 0:59 | did the talk of the town was Roy Maly
  • 1:01 | and Shane Lowry up on stage doing
  • 1:03 | karaoke with drinks in their hands so
  • 1:05 | like I mean I guess maybe we should uh
  • 1:08 | Strokes game party life we should kind
  • 1:09 | of boost it up a little bit more who
  • 1:11 | knows but let’s get into it um I know
  • 1:14 | you’re talking about Mr cashmir Keith
  • 1:17 | Keith Mitchell I want to say at 40 to1
  • 1:20 | he’s a guy who is on my card so I smiled
  • 1:22 | a little bit and I want to ride your hot
  • 1:24 | hand tell me what you like about Keith
  • 1:26 | Mitchell I mean he’s he’s tearing the
  • 1:28 | cover off the ball I mean he’s out there
  • 1:30 | with his big old visor I mean the thing
  • 1:32 | the thing I actually think that his
  • 1:33 | visor gets a little bit bigger every
  • 1:35 | week and it’s it’s just it’s just like a
  • 1:36 | bit to toy with us as golf fans but I’m
  • 1:39 | into it I’m okay with the visor as long
  • 1:41 | as he is he keeps hitting it first in
  • 1:43 | ball striking in this field third in
  • 1:45 | Strokes gained on approach uh every week
  • 1:47 | he is just a machine uh from the Fairway
  • 1:51 | accuracy off the tea is a little bit of
  • 1:53 | a question and that is important here
  • 1:55 | I’m willing to overlook that because of
  • 1:57 | his second shot ability uh if you could
  • 2:00 | just keep it together on the weekend it
  • 2:02 | would really really help me out I really
  • 2:04 | do think that he’s not going to be super
  • 2:07 | high rostered in DraftKings tournaments
  • 2:09 | it makes him very interesting you know
  • 2:11 | uh what I love about what you said is
  • 2:13 | he’s tearing the cover off the ball this
  • 2:14 | is another course where ball striking is
  • 2:16 | going to be absolutely massive this is
  • 2:18 | like the Run of events where you just
  • 2:19 | want to take ball Strikers I’m going
  • 2:21 | with a ball Striker and I was not going
  • 2:23 | to flirt with the the lower price guys
  • 2:25 | guys anyone under 20 to one um
  • 2:28 | especially with how early in the season
  • 2:31 | we were seeing long shots win but with
  • 2:32 | Scotty sheffler winning multiple times
  • 2:34 | with Rory malroy and Shane Lowry winning
  • 2:37 | at 7 to1 I’m diving back in because I
  • 2:40 | think the year of the long shots kind of
  • 2:41 | decimated especially at this point in
  • 2:43 | the season I’m taking SEIU Kim at 18 to
  • 2:45 | one so there’s two incredible stats and
  • 2:48 | I will just give a quick plug to rickun
  • 2:50 | good.com where you can find this listed
  • 2:52 | out it’s how many times a guy gains any
  • 2:55 | kind of stroke to the field and then
  • 2:57 | another field is how many times a guy
  • 2:59 | gains at least one stroke to the field
  • 3:00 | you can go all the way up to five um but
  • 3:02 | I only did it for one and two just
  • 3:04 | because it’s a birdie Fest you’re not
  • 3:05 | going to gain that many strokes to the
  • 3:06 | field we’ll see who Kim is number one in
  • 3:08 | both of those in the last 36 rounds it’s
  • 3:10 | also important to note that seuk Kim is
  • 3:12 | the runner up here last
  • 3:14 | season and if you look at a stat profile
  • 3:17 | just about every single event outside
  • 3:19 | the Masters he was a big Gainer on
  • 3:21 | approach we know he’s really excellent
  • 3:23 | off the T and by excellent means he hits
  • 3:25 | Fairways which is what you need here
  • 3:27 | just hit Fairways you don’t need to be
  • 3:29 | crazy long the length helps and you want
  • 3:31 | to be really good on Approach at 18 to1
  • 3:33 | it was a little juicy for my appetite
  • 3:35 | but I figured if I were to look at all
  • 3:37 | the guys on the board who set up the
  • 3:39 | most SEI Wu Kim is absolutely a guy who
  • 3:42 | I could ignore a bunch of the price and
  • 3:46 | just take the better golfer absolutely
  • 3:48 | and and like you said uh you know
  • 3:50 | accuracy matters a lot more than
  • 3:52 | distance at this event on this course
  • 3:55 | and by almost every measure seim is the
  • 3:57 | most accurate driver on tour this season
  • 4:00 | so he’s going to put himself in position
  • 4:01 | to score I’m I’m totally with you there
  • 4:04 | so um I was a better of Chan Kim about
  • 4:07 | five events ago I got him at 150 to1 I
  • 4:11 | think he finished like top 10 I didn’t
  • 4:13 | play him in the eway market I didn’t
  • 4:15 | play him in DFS I didn’t play him in the
  • 4:17 | placement Market I was absolutely felt
  • 4:20 | embarrassed I think he was 250 to1 it
  • 4:22 | was the actual price um so you like Chan
  • 4:24 | Kim at 7600 on DraftKings what do you
  • 4:27 | like about him yeah so he’s really
  • 4:29 | turned it around as far as ball striking
  • 4:32 | goes over the past month or so he had a
  • 4:35 | tie tie for 14th finish at Valero Texas
  • 4:37 | open tied for sixth at corales pakana uh
  • 4:41 | last week his team tied for 28th at the
  • 4:44 | Zurich event uh he’s top 20 in ball
  • 4:47 | striking in this field uh do do me a
  • 4:49 | favor and do yourself a favor don’t look
  • 4:51 | at Chan Kim’s ball striking numbers
  • 4:54 | before like the beginning of March okay
  • 4:56 | because they are really really ugly uh
  • 4:59 | he has turned it around and and here’s
  • 5:01 | the thing so 7600 on DraftKings I
  • 5:03 | actually think is not a good price for
  • 5:06 | Chan Kim so why are you talking about
  • 5:07 | him this is this is the natural question
  • 5:09 | because at 7600 nobody is gonna roster
  • 5:12 | this guy I I think that there are guys
  • 5:14 | who are six
  • 5:15 | eight, uh less than than Kim on
  • 5:18 | DraftKings who are going to see much
  • 5:19 | higher roster percentage so if you’re
  • 5:20 | playing tournaments I think Kim is just
  • 5:22 | a name that will be completely ignored
  • 5:24 | here and he’s trending in the right
  • 5:26 | direction okay Mr Chan kemell I’m going
  • 5:28 | to go to another guy um who I actually
  • 5:31 | think is kind of under the radar it’s
  • 5:34 | hard to say that this golfer doesn’t get
  • 5:37 | respect because of how well he’s done on
  • 5:39 | the corn fairy tour but when it comes to
  • 5:42 | the PGA Tour we knew his breakthrough
  • 5:44 | was coming when you have that kind of
  • 5:45 | success on another tour and you come
  • 5:46 | over you come over to the PGA Tour it’s
  • 5:48 | just bound to happen he was knocking a
  • 5:50 | lot and he broke through the glass at
  • 5:52 | the Houston open and that’s Stephen jger
  • 5:54 | his price at one point was like 3540 to1
  • 5:56 | I bet him at 33 to1 and I bet him to
  • 5:59 | finish top 20 at plus 165 little fun
  • 6:03 | fact he’s the only golfer to beat Scotty
  • 6:04 | Sheffer in the last five starts of
  • 6:06 | Scotty Sheffer but when we think about
  • 6:10 | his makeup what makes him such a good
  • 6:12 | golfer outside of the pedigree of
  • 6:14 | winning on the corn fairy tour one of
  • 6:15 | the winnest winningest golfers in a
  • 6:18 | single corn fairy tour season it’s what
  • 6:21 | he does well he’s a great driver of the
  • 6:23 | ball who’s also long off the te and then
  • 6:26 | when I was building out my model I
  • 6:27 | wanted to see where he would fall I
  • 6:29 | would him even if he finished inside the
  • 6:30 | top like bottom 20 not bottom 20 but in
  • 6:33 | the bottom of the top 20 he actually
  • 6:35 | finished fifth and a lot of that has to
  • 6:37 | do with at this course it’s going to be
  • 6:38 | a birdie Fest a lot of that to do is
  • 6:40 | birdie betters or gain also the top
  • 6:43 | three easiest holes on this course are
  • 6:45 | all par fives he’s top 10 in par five
  • 6:49 | scoring which helps me out a lot I think
  • 6:51 | that uh Stephen jer’s at this point of
  • 6:53 | his career where he’s going to be a
  • 6:55 | multiple PGA Tour winner and I think it
  • 6:58 | can happen year after after year so why
  • 7:00 | not event like this we draw parallels to
  • 7:03 | the this being a corn fairy tour like
  • 7:06 | field well he dominated the corn fairy
  • 7:08 | tour I think he has a good chance to
  • 7:09 | dominate this event uh yeah I mean this
  • 7:12 | is a guy who eats up par fives like you
  • 7:14 | mentioned and that’s going to be
  • 7:15 | important here um he doesn’t do poorly
  • 7:18 | in in birdie Fest either and yeah he he
  • 7:21 | did beat Scotty Sheffer it doesn’t look
  • 7:22 | the fact that Scotty cheff should have
  • 7:24 | made that putt on on the 72nd hole
  • 7:27 | Scotty yeah so so they were forgetting
  • 7:30 | that Steph jger beat him head
  • 7:33 | tohe all right let’s get to our last
  • 7:36 | golfers um who do you like in kind of
  • 7:38 | that long shot uh pivot kind of role um
  • 7:42 | on DS this week yeah uh Joel Joel domon
  • 7:46 | uh Joel Damon I should say 6,800 on on
  • 7:48 | DraftKings he’s fourth in this field in
  • 7:50 | Strokes gained on approach third in ball
  • 7:52 | striking over the past two months the
  • 7:54 | thing is r as you know my man Joel
  • 7:57 | cannot make a putt and I don’t mean like
  • 8:00 | long putt any I mean a single putt
  • 8:03 | that’s not a tap in he’s 140th out of
  • 8:06 | 143 in this field in Strokes gain
  • 8:08 | putting it is an absolute disaster on
  • 8:09 | the greens my guy Joel doesn’t have much
  • 8:12 | confidence around the greens or on the
  • 8:14 | greens thankfully he’s ripping the cover
  • 8:16 | off the ball like his friend Kashmir
  • 8:17 | Keith and they combined last week to uh
  • 8:20 | uh not almost win the the Zurich but uh
  • 8:22 | but put put up a fight until the weekend
  • 8:24 | it makes you wonder about their partying
  • 8:27 | habits honestly but uh uh domond I do I
  • 8:31 | do like domond as a lowc cost option
  • 8:32 | even if even if he cuts the top off his
  • 8:34 | bucket hat which he did last week I know
  • 8:36 | you saw that he he cut it off he looked
  • 8:39 | absolutely ridiculous uh hopefully that
  • 8:42 | that brings him some luck this week if
  • 8:43 | he keeps that up if I know the memes and
  • 8:46 | watching the Netflix series these guys
  • 8:49 | definitely love the party so no surprise
  • 8:51 | there but I’m gonna go with um kind of
  • 8:53 | an interesting bet I don’t play this
  • 8:55 | Market all that often but I will say I
  • 8:57 | will preface it by say this if I bet
  • 9:00 | Alex norin as the top SC Scandinavian
  • 9:03 | player at plus 150 i’ get a better price
  • 9:06 | by almost five 50 cents if I bet him
  • 9:10 | here versus the top Swedish player at
  • 9:12 | minus
  • 9:13 | 115 um I bet Alex Nan win uh but at 28
  • 9:18 | to1 I don’t think that he has enough win
  • 9:20 | equity for me really to dive in those
  • 9:22 | Waters and advise it as hey guys this is
  • 9:24 | my favorite bet I actually do love this
  • 9:27 | bet here because first and foremost if
  • 9:29 | you look get adjusted course fit I use
  • 9:31 | that metric a lot of kind of like a
  • 9:33 | starting point right like how my brain
  • 9:35 | works I like putting things in lists I
  • 9:37 | list out all of these but adjusted
  • 9:39 | course fit is kind of one of the first
  • 9:40 | things I list out then I list out uh
  • 9:43 | recent results five straight top 25
  • 9:46 | finishes he’s really great at par fives
  • 9:49 | and it’s important to note that the guys
  • 9:52 | he’s playing with are really up and down
  • 9:56 | on the season roller coaster rise when
  • 9:58 | you think at you think about olssen
  • 9:59 | Norman Jor norlander yeah sure they have
  • 10:01 | these big prices but if you want
  • 10:03 | consistency if you were to run this bet
  • 10:05 | back at the same course five or 10 times
  • 10:07 | I think noren’s gonna be the guy that
  • 10:08 | you’re gonna want to go after at plus
  • 10:10 | 150 we love our Scandinavians we and and
  • 10:13 | I and I like Alex norin a lot this week
  • 10:15 | he he fits he fits a lot of the the the
  • 10:18 | key metrics for this course yeah man as
  • 10:21 | always this was fun I I hope that you
  • 10:23 | guys got a little bit of insights on how
  • 10:26 | we’re going to play this week and how
  • 10:27 | you can make money if Denny continue to
  • 10:29 | stay hot he’s going to buy me drinks
  • 10:31 | next time I see him oh before you go
  • 10:34 | make sure you check out nbcsports.com to
  • 10:36 | help with all of your Wagers for Denny
  • 10:38 | Carter I’m Brad Thomas thanks for
  • 10:40 | checking out going for the green
