ABOUT DANNY
———————–
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Video Transcript

  • 0:00 | so this week we’re talking Fairy Woods
  • 0:02 | if you can learn to hit your Fairy Woods
  • 0:03 | off the ground effectively you can start
  • 0:05 | to get much closer to the green on these
  • 0:08 | long par fives now this week I had a
  • 0:10 | golf school with a number of students
  • 0:12 | really struggling with this part of
  • 0:13 | their game some would top the ball some
  • 0:15 | would thin it someone really struggle to
  • 0:16 | get the ball Airborne now by the time
  • 0:18 | we’d finished every single one of them
  • 0:20 | were striking it loads better and their
  • 0:22 | confidence would really come up in this
  • 0:24 | video I’m going to give you basically
  • 0:26 | five simple wees that you can kind of
  • 0:28 | use or adapt to help you hit your Woods
  • 0:31 | off the ground effectively and really
  • 0:33 | consistently the likelihood is you won’t
  • 0:34 | need them all but a combination of one
  • 0:35 | or two is going to super super help now
  • 0:38 | before I get into the video if you’re
  • 0:39 | new to the channel it’s when your first
  • 0:40 | lessons of mine please consider
  • 0:42 | subscribing I release videos just like
  • 0:44 | this every single week to try and help
  • 0:45 | you improve your game plus you never
  • 0:47 | have to remember a thing I’ll always put
  • 0:49 | a free download practice guide in the
  • 0:50 | description box below so tip number one
  • 0:52 | and this happens before we even get into
  • 0:54 | all this cool stuff that’s going to
  • 0:56 | really help you with your ball striking
  • 0:57 | can going have a look at this you need
  • 0:59 | to assess your lie now look at this if I
  • 1:03 | if you end up on The Fairway and you
  • 1:04 | have a beautiful lie like this you can
  • 1:08 | get the full face of that club into the
  • 1:10 | back of the golf ball in fact you could
  • 1:12 | get any club into the back of that golf
  • 1:13 | ball that’s perfect for hitting your
  • 1:16 | Fairy Woods off the ground so great tick
  • 1:18 | in the Box you can use your fairywood or
  • 1:20 | your hybrid you’re all good to go but
  • 1:22 | look at this come going to have a look
  • 1:24 | at this one just a few inches this side
  • 1:28 | I’ve just found the rough
  • 1:30 | and now look just I can’t get that club
  • 1:35 | to the bottom of that golf ball I can
  • 1:36 | only get it one/ third up from the
  • 1:38 | bottom that is a top every day of the
  • 1:41 | week now I could avoid hitting a top by
  • 1:45 | actually striking down on that golf ball
  • 1:47 | maybe moving the ball slightly further
  • 1:48 | back in my strance that would certainly
  • 1:50 | improve my strike but if I’ve got a
  • 1:52 | three-w in my hands and I’ve lent and
  • 1:54 | I’m hitting down I’ve taken all that
  • 1:56 | Loft off of that freeway that 15° and
  • 1:58 | turned it into almost like five that
  • 2:00 | Ball’s going to come off like a rocket
  • 2:01 | too low to the ground so when your ball
  • 2:04 | is maybe not even in the rough look at
  • 2:06 | this here look if I move that ball there
  • 2:08 | that’s still nestled look see how it
  • 2:10 | just drops into like a little muddy kind
  • 2:13 | of indentation there that makes that lie
  • 2:16 | very difficult you’re going to have to
  • 2:18 | come down on it whenever you come down
  • 2:20 | on it you deloft something you’re going
  • 2:22 | to have to deloft the ball’s going to go
  • 2:23 | back in your stance suddenly now a
  • 2:26 | fairywood is probably not the best
  • 2:28 | choice you’re going to need something
  • 2:29 | with more Loft if you’ve got a hybrid
  • 2:31 | maybe like a five or a six that has
  • 2:34 | maybe 26 27° that’s okay on a lie like
  • 2:37 | that because you can come down on it but
  • 2:38 | three woods and five Woods very very
  • 2:41 | risky okay in fact joking aside me and
  • 2:43 | my dad went to St Andrews recently my
  • 2:45 | dad who’s been playing golf for like 30
  • 2:47 | odd years probably 40 odd years took a
  • 2:49 | hybrid out of pretty much a hole on a
  • 2:52 | golf course so no matter how long you’ve
  • 2:53 | been playing we all make these mistakes
  • 2:56 | but this is one of the reasons why so
  • 2:57 | many people top it it’s not down to your
  • 2:58 | swing is cuz you haven’t assessed your
  • 3:00 | lie so you’ve assessed the lie you’re
  • 3:02 | almost ready to make a swing but there’s
  • 3:04 | one more thing you need to do beforehand
  • 3:06 | remember the golf swing is a circle yeah
  • 3:11 | and there’s always a low point to that
  • 3:13 | Circle really really important now I’ve
  • 3:16 | got my driver here because I want to
  • 3:17 | show the difference between a driver a
  • 3:19 | fairway wood a hybrid and an iron now
  • 3:22 | with a driver I set up here look with a
  • 3:24 | ball in line with my lead heel now why
  • 3:27 | do I do that because I want to hit this
  • 3:30 | ball it’s beautifully perched up on a te
  • 3:33 | I want to hit the ball slightly on the
  • 3:34 | way up so I can launch it miles down the
  • 3:36 | Fairway okay now the low point of your
  • 3:38 | circle is directly underneath your lead
  • 3:42 | armpit here now my lead armpit is just
  • 3:44 | set just behind the ball here absolutely
  • 3:47 | perfect for me to Simply make a swing
  • 3:49 | and all from here look I can simply boom
  • 3:51 | hit that ball beautifully off that tea
  • 3:54 | piece of cake right now the problem is
  • 3:58 | if I go to my
  • 4:01 | five wood or three wood and I literally
  • 4:04 | do the same thing what’s going to happen
  • 4:07 | is my low point is behind that ball here
  • 4:11 | and I start to come
  • 4:12 | down I’m now going to hit it up and
  • 4:17 | there’s no T I’m going to top it on the
  • 4:18 | ground right so what do we do well we
  • 4:21 | need to move that ball behind the low
  • 4:26 | point and the way we do that look is we
  • 4:29 | simply we start with a driver position
  • 4:32 | here and what I’m going to do is I’m
  • 4:33 | going to move just about a club and a
  • 4:36 | half’s width about maybe a club a club
  • 4:39 | which will be enough and what I’ve done
  • 4:40 | is my low point now is just ahead of
  • 4:42 | that golf ball this is absolutely ideal
  • 4:44 | look to make a swing where I’m going to
  • 4:47 | swing the club’s going to come
  • 4:48 | beautifully down on the circle strike
  • 4:50 | the ball then the ground just afterwards
  • 4:53 | and make a great
  • 4:58 | strike beautiful now look at this come a
  • 5:00 | quick closer look at this you can see he
  • 5:02 | look there was where the ball was and
  • 5:05 | the divot look is afterwards my low
  • 5:07 | point is after the golf ball this is
  • 5:09 | what’s going to give you your strikes
  • 5:11 | with your woods now the only difference
  • 5:13 | with a hybrid and an iron and it’s very
  • 5:16 | very subtle is every Club every ball
  • 5:20 | that you hit off the ground needs to be
  • 5:22 | struck slightly on the way down so where
  • 5:24 | the uh the Fairwood might be a club
  • 5:27 | width you might do a club and a half
  • 5:29 | with your high okay simple as that
  • 5:32 | anything that’s going to help you strike
  • 5:33 | the ball then the ground this is the
  • 5:35 | main difference between driver or any
  • 5:38 | club for that matter off a tea now some
  • 5:40 | people say well if I what do I do on a
  • 5:43 | if I tee my um Freewood up maybe off a
  • 5:46 | tea well you can get away remember
  • 5:48 | anything off a tea you can get away with
  • 5:50 | a slightly upward strike which is one of
  • 5:52 | the reasons why a lot of players love to
  • 5:54 | hit um they love those lies where you’re
  • 5:57 | perched up in the rough when it’s
  • 5:58 | perched up in the rough you can get away
  • 6:00 | with an upward strike because in theory
  • 6:02 | it’s on a little T anything that’s down
  • 6:05 | nestled down or whatever requires a
  • 6:07 | downward strike so ball position
  • 6:10 | relative to where your low point is very
  • 6:12 | very important experiment with moving it
  • 6:14 | slightly further back so you naturally
  • 6:16 | guarantee a downward strike so tip
  • 6:18 | number three and we’re now on to the
  • 6:20 | swing and trying to help you improve
  • 6:22 | your strike maybe stop topping your
  • 6:23 | Woods get a consistent strike now the
  • 6:26 | simplest way I know for you to try and
  • 6:28 | achieve this and I gave this to one of
  • 6:29 | the guys Clive who is really struggling
  • 6:31 | with consistency is the feet together
  • 6:33 | exercise a lot of the time look
  • 6:35 | fairwoods are tricky they need they’re
  • 6:37 | really require a kind of a premium swing
  • 6:40 | right now the simplest way to achieve
  • 6:43 | that is you put your feet together like
  • 6:44 | this turn your lead foot out now I want
  • 6:47 | you here to maintain a consistent Circle
  • 6:51 | yeah backwards and forwards it’s been
  • 6:53 | discussing it but a lot of times when
  • 6:55 | people are making a swing they’re
  • 6:57 | tending to lift up like this they tend
  • 6:59 | to sway off the ball now what I love
  • 7:02 | about the feet together exercise here to
  • 7:03 | start with at least is this it really
  • 7:06 | helps you maintain and get a sense of
  • 7:08 | swinging IM balance now notice this as
  • 7:12 | you do this I’m not trying to stay still
  • 7:14 | like this I’m just swing my arms I’m
  • 7:16 | basically making a
  • 7:18 | swing Swinging with as much freedom in
  • 7:21 | my ankles my knees my hips as you
  • 7:23 | physically can and simply hold that
  • 7:26 | balance swinging balance now what I love
  • 7:28 | about this is if you go slightly off
  • 7:30 | you’re going to feel it immediately and
  • 7:32 | it gives you a great feedback for you to
  • 7:34 | immediately improve next time okay so
  • 7:36 | what I did is and what Clyde was amazed
  • 7:38 | at when he hit this shot now of course
  • 7:41 | it took him a few attempts initially
  • 7:42 | just to get the feel of this he lost his
  • 7:44 | balance great feedback for him but after
  • 7:46 | a while he could not believe how far he
  • 7:49 | was hitting the shot because the feet to
  • 7:51 | get the
  • 7:52 | drill ensures look at
  • 7:55 | that consistent contact I have to
  • 7:58 | basically swing in balance and stay very
  • 8:03 | and look after the quality of that
  • 8:04 | Circle over and over again and if I lose
  • 8:08 | my balance I’m immediately going to get
  • 8:10 | instant feedback and you will too so
  • 8:13 | learn to swing in balance with your feet
  • 8:15 | together and then gradually move them
  • 8:17 | slightly further apart like this and
  • 8:20 | just Build It Up gradually that way you
  • 8:22 | can build a great
  • 8:24 | swing look at that I’ve absolutely
  • 8:26 | ripped that down the middle of fair we’
  • 8:29 | what is is just a very very tiny tiny
  • 8:31 | motion okay and you can see here I’m
  • 8:34 | taking a slight diot after that golf
  • 8:36 | ball that means I’m striking the ball
  • 8:38 | then the ground this is what’s giving me
  • 8:40 | that lovely strike each and every single
  • 8:42 | time I am not trying to lift the ball up
  • 8:46 | in the air which one thing I want you to
  • 8:48 | just bear in mind before we move on to
  • 8:49 | the next step some of the guys don’t
  • 8:52 | have uh in the group didn’t have the
  • 8:53 | power really to be using a free wood
  • 8:56 | very few people should be using free
  • 8:57 | wood most people should be using five
  • 8:59 | woods and sward things we’ve Loft
  • 9:01 | because they don’t have the club speed
  • 9:03 | if you don’t have the club speed you
  • 9:04 | could put a great swing on your freeway
  • 9:06 | the ball still goes ready really low and
  • 9:08 | the problem is psychologically you start
  • 9:11 | to try to lift the bulp in the air just
  • 9:13 | to get more elevation ruining your swing
  • 9:15 | often using a five wood seven wood
  • 9:17 | you’re going to hit it just as far if
  • 9:19 | not further than you’ll ever hit a free
  • 9:20 | wood so tip number four and this is
  • 9:22 | really helpful for those of you might
  • 9:24 | struggle with you know topping it or
  • 9:26 | sometimes even fatting your kind of um
  • 9:28 | your Fairy Woods and your h
  • 9:29 | now ultimately here it’s radius control
  • 9:32 | you know a lot of times when people are
  • 9:34 | swinging this and they creating this
  • 9:36 | circle what they tend to do often with
  • 9:38 | the fear of maybe hitting the ground
  • 9:40 | they pull up their arms like this you
  • 9:41 | see them kind of almost like this
  • 9:43 | getting quite nervous so what I want you
  • 9:45 | to do is just extend those arms out we
  • 9:47 | want to maintain look the radius of the
  • 9:49 | circle we don’t want those arms kind of
  • 9:51 | lifting now the simplest way to do that
  • 9:53 | let’s combine it with the feet together
  • 9:54 | drill I want you to imagine putting the
  • 9:57 | club maybe a foot behind the ball like
  • 9:59 | this and all we’re going to do stretch
  • 10:00 | out those arms and just imagine gliding
  • 10:03 | the fairywood maybe a couple of feet
  • 10:05 | past the ball so foot behind the ball a
  • 10:08 | couple of feet fast the ball and you’re
  • 10:09 | going to get a sense of this kind of
  • 10:10 | extension through the impact area here
  • 10:13 | right then what you’re going to do
  • 10:14 | you’re going to combine that kind of
  • 10:16 | motion here with the feet together
  • 10:18 | exercise really sensing that you’ve got
  • 10:21 | this kind of long kind of Ark in this
  • 10:24 | swing you haven’t got this kind of chop
  • 10:26 | and this kind of lifting motion you’re
  • 10:28 | really looking after in the bottom of
  • 10:31 | that Circle okay so feet together again
  • 10:34 | just again visualize that kind of
  • 10:36 | sweeping motion yes we’re coming
  • 10:38 | slightly down on it but we’re not
  • 10:39 | chopping down and we’re certainly not
  • 10:41 | lifting up so just visualize that lovely
  • 10:44 | shallow Arc of that Circle again we’ll
  • 10:47 | stick to the feet together drill to
  • 10:49 | really enhance your
  • 10:53 | mechanics absolute Beauty down the
  • 10:56 | middle of the Fairway so tip number five
  • 10:58 | I give it to so many people rhythm with
  • 11:02 | all of this if you find yourself rushing
  • 11:05 | your golf swing in any shape or form
  • 11:07 | find something to kind of concentrate on
  • 11:10 | to create the Rhythm and what I like to
  • 11:13 | do is is I like to put my attention on
  • 11:15 | the club head a lot and and I help my
  • 11:16 | students do this by going one when the
  • 11:19 | club gets to the top of the back we’re
  • 11:21 | going say and two one and two one and
  • 11:27 | two find that Rhythm then go in don’t
  • 11:31 | waste any time get yourself set put our
  • 11:33 | feet fairly close together again okay
  • 11:35 | I’m going to go one and two and what we
  • 11:39 | create look is a beautiful flowing
  • 11:43 | Rhythm that isn’t rushed isn’t snatch it
  • 11:45 | isn’t anxious start to create maybe a
  • 11:49 | combination of those five simple ways to
  • 11:51 | hit your fairwoods and I promise you
  • 11:53 | you’re going to get become much much
  • 11:55 | more consistent off the ground if you
  • 11:56 | enjoy the video give it a thumbs up
  • 11:58 | maybe share it with one of your friends
  • 11:59 | friends and of course look if you’re new
  • 12:00 | to the channel press that subscribe
  • 12:01 | button and the bell and remember there’s
  • 12:03 | a free practice guide in the description
  • 12:05 | box below if you love to see how I help
  • 12:09 | golfers improve their driver swing check
  • 12:11 | these one of these two videos out here
  • 12:13 | that’ll be the next stage for you after
  • 12:15 | you forward

Thanks Danny, five great tips which I know will help me avoid topping my fairway woods ????‍♂️. BTW I totally agree with you, no need for a 3W in my bag. Recently I replaced it with a 9W which is fantastic around my tight parkland course ????⛳️

I put the ball a bit further back in my stance, this helps me with all my clubs.

Another great video Danny the feet together drill give such great feedback. Assume it’s much the same for long irons. Could you do a video on those please
