Video Description

90% of golfers can’t hit driver straight and struggle to gain any more distance because they keep making the same mistakes. If you have ever wondered how to hit the golf ball straight and far you are in for a treat. Here’s why you might struggle to strike your driver straight and long:

1. You have the hand & ball position in the wrong place
2. You don’t have enough weight on your lead foot at set up – BIG ONE
3. You aren’t creating a simple circle in the golf swing
4. You don’t have control over the club face

What’s great is if you have any one of these faults in your golf swing they are really easy to fix and can make an instant impact on the quality of your ball striking not just with your irons but with your driver too.

For example if you want to hit your driver straight just getting the forearms aligned at address will be a real eye opener for you and if you want to strike your irons perfect simply shifting the swing circle towards the target will instantly improve strike.

ABOUT DANNY
———————–
Thanks for stopping by. I created this website as a resource just for you to support you on your golfing journey as I know how tricky learning this game can be…to say the least!

I personally found learning the game too long and difficult in the early days. I read all the books, watched all the videos but my game was not improving. Then after studying various forms of neuro science, motor learning, psychology and personal development in less than two years I went from struggling golfer to the final stage of the Open Championship.

On YouTube and my personal website (www.dannymaude.com) I will bring you the most up to date training, training that is getting tangible results for my clients right now. I don’t know where you are in your golfing journey, you could be just starting out or maybe your body isn’t as flexible as it once was or you’ve got ambitions to slash your handicap. Wherever you are I’ve created a place here you can learn, share your ideas, ask questions and get all the support you need to enjoy this great game.

Be prepared though. If its a quick fix you are after Im not your man. Here I will give you step-by-step advice that you can take straight to the practice ground and apply to the course but it will require you to get stuck in, screw up…a lot, practice some more and then watch those scores tumble

I’ve had the pleasure of coaching thousands of students all around the world and if you are up for the challenge and are ready to get in the game…LETS GO TO WORK!

Video Transcript

  • 0:00 | so I’ve just come off a lesson teaching
  • 0:01 | my dad actually how to hit driver a lot
  • 0:03 | longer than he was doing whilst also
  • 0:05 | maintaining his accuracy now we worked
  • 0:08 | on the concept of the Swing Circle which
  • 0:09 | is super super valuable he basically is
  • 0:12 | going to help you to figure out how to
  • 0:14 | make solid contact every time but more
  • 0:16 | importantly when you come through it’s
  • 0:18 | going to help you to figure out how to
  • 0:20 | generate more power and distance without
  • 0:23 | losing accuracy how many times do you
  • 0:26 | try and hit the driver a bit further and
  • 0:27 | then suddenly all goes wrong is that
  • 0:29 | hitting it all over the place you lose
  • 0:30 | your strike what you’re going to see in
  • 0:32 | this video is exactly how you basically
  • 0:34 | do both you increase distance but
  • 0:36 | maintain accuracy now before I get into
  • 0:39 | video look if you’re new to the channels
  • 0:40 | from your first lessons of mine please
  • 0:42 | consider subscribing I release videos
  • 0:43 | just like this one every single week to
  • 0:45 | try and help you improve your game plus
  • 0:47 | you never have to remember a thing I
  • 0:49 | always put a free downloadable practice
  • 0:51 | guide in the description box below so in
  • 0:53 | the first part of this video let me help
  • 0:55 | you hit driver straight and in the
  • 0:57 | second part I’ll show you how you can
  • 0:58 | increase your distance by a single
  • 0:59 | significant amount it’s easier than you
  • 1:01 | think now when you’re playing golf with
  • 1:04 | a drive it’s slightly different than you
  • 1:05 | only do with an iron okay now I didn’t
  • 1:07 | know whether you realize this but
  • 1:09 | whenever you swing a golf club you are
  • 1:11 | creating a circle with that club so as I
  • 1:13 | swing the club back like this and then I
  • 1:15 | swing it down and then I swing it
  • 1:17 | through you’ll notice there’s a circle
  • 1:18 | being created
  • 1:20 | now a circle has a center and a maximum
  • 1:22 | radius now that Center of your circle is
  • 1:25 | directly underneath your lead shoulder
  • 1:28 | where your lead almond Club form a
  • 1:30 | straight line like this that is your
  • 1:32 | center of your circle
  • 1:34 | where that low point is we call it low
  • 1:36 | point in golf where that low point is is
  • 1:38 | very very important now with an IM we
  • 1:41 | catch the ball
  • 1:42 | before the club gets to the lowest point
  • 1:46 | of the circle but with a driver it’s
  • 1:48 | different with the driver we catch the
  • 1:51 | ball actually right at the bottom of
  • 1:54 | that Circle or even when the circle’s
  • 1:57 | actually heading upwards so we actually
  • 1:59 | hit it almost on the way up
  • 2:00 | now to do that with a driver like an
  • 2:03 | iron we position the ball much further
  • 2:05 | forward in our stance opposite our lead
  • 2:07 | heel we still have a bit more weight
  • 2:09 | over on this lead side but what we do is
  • 2:11 | we have a small little kind of side Bend
  • 2:14 | to the away from the target to set that
  • 2:17 | driver swing off okay now from this
  • 2:20 | angle from actually down the line angle
  • 2:22 | you also create a circle and this is a
  • 2:26 | really good angle to see your swing from
  • 2:27 | because this is what I call the accuracy
  • 2:29 | Circle
  • 2:31 | my question to you is is your circle
  • 2:33 | angled in the right way so if you look
  • 2:36 | at mine here
  • 2:37 | when I swing back I create an act back
  • 2:39 | and act through and I also create an arc
  • 2:42 | on the way through this creates a circle
  • 2:43 | on an angle
  • 2:45 | if you slice a golf ball like my dad
  • 2:47 | actually in a recent lesson his Circle
  • 2:50 | was angled too far
  • 2:52 | to the left combine that with an open
  • 2:54 | face and my dad created this big slice
  • 2:57 | in a big loss of distance
  • 2:59 | if you hook the golf ball your circle is
  • 3:01 | more likely to be angled too much over
  • 3:03 | this side okay combine that with a
  • 3:06 | closed face and you’ve got yourself a
  • 3:08 | hook right so the question is and this
  • 3:11 | is where most people find find the
  • 3:13 | problems at the question is ah you set
  • 3:16 | up to produce the circle that you need
  • 3:18 | so let me give you an example this my
  • 3:21 | dad comes for a session and he’s slicing
  • 3:22 | the golf ball his circles angled here
  • 3:25 | what did we do ball position still
  • 3:28 | forwarding his stance but all we did was
  • 3:30 | this I asked him is your body helping
  • 3:32 | you create the circle that you need and
  • 3:35 | it wasn’t his hips his knees and his
  • 3:37 | shoulders were all aiming left of Target
  • 3:40 | what’s that going to create you’ve got
  • 3:42 | it a circle that goes left what did we
  • 3:45 | do I simply got his knees hips and
  • 3:47 | shoulders not straight actually because
  • 3:49 | he needed to exaggerate start off with I
  • 3:51 | actually pushed him extremely here so
  • 3:54 | that if anything we exaggerated it to
  • 3:56 | try and encourage him to do completely
  • 3:57 | opposite to create a circle that went
  • 3:59 | out over this way yeah the results were
  • 4:03 | amazing okay we start hitting much much
  • 4:05 | straighter however he went on the golf
  • 4:08 | course a few days later he said Danny I
  • 4:10 | feel like I’m I’m getting it sometimes
  • 4:12 | but I’m losing distance I’m not getting
  • 4:13 | his fat hit as far as I would do
  • 4:15 | normally so I got him back in the studio
  • 4:16 | I’m going to show you that video at some
  • 4:18 | stage in next week or two got him back
  • 4:20 | in the studio and we worked on this and
  • 4:22 | this is the next element so once you’ve
  • 4:23 | set up to create the circle in the right
  • 4:26 | place body positions in the right place
  • 4:28 | then you do this and this is the first
  • 4:31 | part on how you add power to your drive
  • 4:33 | now what my dad was doing he was
  • 4:36 | creating the circle but he was only
  • 4:37 | creating it just with his hands and his
  • 4:39 | arms what you’ve got to remember is you
  • 4:41 | need help with the power your body’s got
  • 4:44 | to create it now your shoulders also
  • 4:47 | work
  • 4:49 | on a circle
  • 4:50 | like this my dads didn’t in fact this
  • 4:53 | lead shoulder refused so many golfers we
  • 4:55 | didn’t barely move at all so all I did
  • 4:58 | was this I got him I actually put a club
  • 5:00 | down and I got him to movies lead
  • 5:02 | shoulder here down to this position
  • 5:04 | that’s as simple as that does two things
  • 5:07 | if might lead shoulder moves down into
  • 5:09 | this position here what’s it done it’s
  • 5:11 | extending the length I can take this
  • 5:13 | club back and not only that is helping
  • 5:15 | me create a better circle around here if
  • 5:18 | I don’t move the shoulder I’ve got a
  • 5:20 | very tight short swing no power
  • 5:22 | generated so simple as that make sure
  • 5:25 | your shoulders also help and work on a
  • 5:28 | circle get a leech all the working down
  • 5:30 | and across here now I’ve created more
  • 5:33 | energy I’ve still more energy at the top
  • 5:35 | of the Swing now we’ve got extra power
  • 5:37 | that’s all I did with my dad so get
  • 5:40 | yourself set first this is the first
  • 5:41 | step to power get that lead shoulder
  • 5:43 | imagine moving it to here that’s what I
  • 5:46 | did with Dad got him moving it to here
  • 5:48 | extend it create the Circle and I
  • 5:51 | promise you you’ll notice huge more
  • 5:53 | distances just from that one thing
  • 5:56 | alone
  • 5:57 | nice and simple a smooth swing
  • 6:00 | easy as that and look how straight that
  • 6:02 | is you create a consistent Circle you’ll
  • 6:04 | create a consistently straight shot so
  • 6:07 | that was the first Edge get that
  • 6:09 | shoulder working on a circle so that you
  • 6:11 | can increase the length that this arm
  • 6:12 | moves back you’re going to store my
  • 6:14 | energy and hit the ball further so the
  • 6:17 | first part of that really kind of
  • 6:18 | increased our distance but this second
  • 6:20 | part was a game changer so he was now
  • 6:23 | creating this wonderful circle on the
  • 6:26 | way back
  • 6:27 | but he kind of spoiled it a bit on the
  • 6:29 | way through like I see with a lot of
  • 6:31 | golfers he got to impact here and he
  • 6:34 | starved himself of room his elbow
  • 6:35 | started to crumple he got a bit wristy
  • 6:37 | here he just looked awkward what he
  • 6:40 | needed to do is we don’t want to have a
  • 6:42 | tiny Circle this side we want a big
  • 6:44 | circle so we needed this lead almond
  • 6:46 | club which is the radius of your circle
  • 6:48 | to stay intact from there all the way to
  • 6:52 | there so for this lead almond Club
  • 6:54 | almost to stay intact all the way what
  • 6:57 | do you think you’ve got to do with your
  • 6:58 | body
  • 6:59 | well you’ve got to get it look
  • 7:01 | out of the way notice how my body’s
  • 7:04 | extending upwards and almost backwards a
  • 7:06 | little bit in order to provide room for
  • 7:08 | this lead almond Club to kind of stay a
  • 7:10 | lot straighter almost in line my dad
  • 7:12 | wasn’t doing that he which like so many
  • 7:15 | golfers were staying down through impact
  • 7:17 | here there’s no room look so what you do
  • 7:19 | is your arms basically you don’t want to
  • 7:21 | hurt themselves so they kind of crumple
  • 7:23 | up they start to get risky what I want
  • 7:26 | and I told him to do was to look let’s
  • 7:28 | create room dad so I asked him the same
  • 7:30 | question what would you do and he goes
  • 7:32 | he just went straight into it and
  • 7:33 | actually got into extension but I did
  • 7:35 | add one final thing I said Dad yes
  • 7:38 | excuse me I said squeeze your nuts
  • 7:39 | together so when you’re coming through
  • 7:40 | suck your belt buckle underneath you and
  • 7:43 | squeeze those nuts together here on the
  • 7:45 | way through so you’re really kind of
  • 7:46 | adding that kind of space and upward
  • 7:48 | motion here of the body versus staying
  • 7:52 | down now when he did that this is kind
  • 7:55 | of what happened he got himself there he
  • 7:57 | started to work on this and he went
  • 8:00 | ah feels good that feels good but look
  • 8:03 | it doesn’t go as far dummy so you’ve
  • 8:06 | just said I want to hit the ball further
  • 8:09 | but I didn’t hit it further I said no
  • 8:12 | but the strike was good but here’s the
  • 8:14 | thing then
  • 8:15 | the secret to power so once you’ve got
  • 8:17 | that sentence now you know your
  • 8:18 | destination
  • 8:20 | the problem with you did what you’re
  • 8:21 | doing Dad is that you’re trying too hard
  • 8:23 | you’re making it too wooden and you make
  • 8:25 | it too deliberate the golf swing isn’t
  • 8:27 | position orientated the gold swingers is
  • 8:30 | feel where you need to go be deliberate
  • 8:33 | yes but the next thing this is the key I
  • 8:36 | want to re-listen for this the key to
  • 8:38 | distance is finding a rhythm rhythm is
  • 8:42 | distance let me show you power is not
  • 8:45 | this
  • 8:47 | power is a build up
  • 8:49 | of momentum listen to this
  • 8:54 | just keep watching this listen to the
  • 8:57 | sound
  • 9:03 | there’s a build up isn’t there momentum
  • 9:05 | is feeling the Rhythm so I said to Dad
  • 9:08 | right
  • 9:09 | let’s get into a routine with this
  • 9:11 | you want to maintain this radius on the
  • 9:14 | come through the lead animal hits the
  • 9:15 | ball but you don’t don’t put the club
  • 9:17 | there you go you now know where it needs
  • 9:19 | to be roughly you know where the body
  • 9:20 | needs to be now as best as you can don’t
  • 9:22 | be perfect with this let’s start to find
  • 9:25 | a rhythm now and a bit of a I call a
  • 9:28 | snap through impact we’re gonna snap to
  • 9:32 | there and I’ll show some videos of my
  • 9:33 | dad working on this right now literally
  • 9:36 | snapping through impact the difference
  • 9:40 | amazing absolutely amazing and it will
  • 9:42 | be for you too in fact it’s a great
  • 9:44 | lesson for every Club in the bag
  • 9:45 | whenever you’re trying to improve
  • 9:47 | remember don’t put the club in positions
  • 9:49 | yes feel what you need to get but then
  • 9:51 | let it rip so I got him going got him
  • 9:54 | start to do it and then this started to
  • 9:56 | happen
  • 9:59 | suddenly their speed starts to come up
  • 10:01 | we start to hit it back longer
  • 10:04 | straighter that is what I want for you
  • 10:08 | get the circle intact yeah keep that
  • 10:11 | Circle intact when you’re coming through
  • 10:13 | the shot provide room by look your body
  • 10:16 | doesn’t stay in what we call flexion it
  • 10:18 | moves to extension here this is
  • 10:21 | providing room for you to keep the
  • 10:22 | circle beautifully intact on the way
  • 10:24 | through from this angle but also look
  • 10:27 | this angle here is also a wonderful
  • 10:30 | power generator so please look after
  • 10:33 | your circle enjoy the circle get it in
  • 10:36 | the right place and practice and enjoy
  • 10:38 | it and have fun with it okay so I hope
  • 10:40 | you enjoyed this video If you do give it
  • 10:41 | a thumbs up maybe share it with one of
  • 10:42 | your friends and of course look if you’d
  • 10:44 | love to see the video that I do my dad
  • 10:46 | check it out here the one that we’re
  • 10:48 | going to be releasing with him on the
  • 10:49 | driver is not out yet but when it is I
  • 10:51 | will put that right here thanks so much
  • 10:53 | for watching the channel if you enjoyed
  • 10:54 | the video give it a thumbs like I say
  • 10:55 | And subscribe to the channel if you
  • 10:57 | haven’t already until next week have a
  • 10:59 | wonderful golfing week

The "lessons" with a play (Dad & others) are great! Love the concept of getting a lesson by watching someone else learn.

I admit I was doing the same thing of not moving my left shoulder enough and properly. However when I tried to move the shoulder as you showed in your video it threw me so far off balance that I either completely missed hitting the ball on the tee, or I topped it, or I got so far under the ball it popped up. Nice to be told to turn the left shoulder as you showed in this video but it did nothing to help me get the circle of the swing where it would work for me.

This lesson just helped me break out of what was over a year-long rut where my swing had fallen completely apart with driver. I was essentially doing all of the things described and corrected them as advised. So happy right now. Thank you.

I get the full circle ⭕️ and swing speed matters – what about on tight fairways? How do you adjust or tone it down for accuracy to ensure you stay inbounds?

When i started looking for YouTube golf tutorials, Rick Shiels was the first that popped up.

Then suddenly Danny Maude began popping up. My initial reaction was…..nah i'm ok, Rick has good advice. But it persisted until i gave in and clicked.

Danny is now my absolute 'go to' mentour now. So clear and easy to follow and he has helped me so much. Thank you, Mr. Maude ?

Danny, when it comes to free swing, the rhythm and sound are there. But when it comes to hitting the real ball. The rhythm would be disrupted and not as smooth. Any idea what went wrong ?
